NATO is not the rest of the world.  Only a good bit of Europe.

Trump does seem anti-war so far.  But I'm thinking term 2 could change that, especially regarding China.

I've always seen the president as an extension of the American people's integrity s a figurehead some presidents living up to this expectation more than others but until now we have never had president that is so profoundly misleading in fake to the point where he lies about stuff that really doesn't matter this doesn't reflect Americans I know and love. This isn't to say any president has been really honest but as far as having genuine optimism and a manner of speaking that comes off as dignified and to be treated as a world leader instead of the punchline

Nothing says 'wtf' like being invited to a state dinner at The White House

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-19/scott-morrison-donald-trump-state-dinner/11525286

Quote:
US presidents tend to host Australian PMs at state dinners relatively early in their first terms, when they're still finding their foreign policy feet and are perhaps looking for a risk-free foray into the world of global politics.

Invitations to these swanky events also tend to come (perhaps with the exception of Hawke) when US presidents want to demonstrate to the world — and themselves — that they have at least one uncomplicated friend who will stand by them and say nice things, no matter what.

But most importantly, for Australia, invitations arrive during times of war: Vietnam, then the Cold War (which was in fact a hot war for much of the world), and then, decades later, Iraq. Notably, Australia did not receive a state dinner invitation between the end of the Cold War and the beginning of the war on terror.

Yes this was announced in July but history shows we have plenty of reason to get a lil nervous whenever the P.M. is summoned to the White House.
Trump apparently likes Morrison, who is also anti climate change action, as it costs money
He was an advertising executive and is a pretty good talker however is also a Pentecostal Christian  :pink:  though I'd be hoping he doesn't have any appetite for yet another Middle East campaign.

I'll join the Liberal Party though if Morrison tells Trump that 'this latest mess in Iran is all your fault, nice work genius'.... but I don't think there's any chance that'll happen.

China.  It seems to be a target and folks know we'd lose the political war fighting China and Russia.  Worse yet we don't know how nuclear things would/will escalate.

I'd keep some food and water rations.  Seed couldn't hurt either.

Nah, China and Russia have nukes. They're untouchable. The closest we'd get to war with either of those two countries is donald "Falling in love" with their leaders just like Kim Jong Un.

Iran needs to build a nuke to preserve peace in the middle east.

Very doubtful.  Russia said they'd use a nuke to defend home turff.

No idea why China would.

There are all sorts of nukes, big and small (briefcase or backpack size).  There are a ton of situations nukes can be used tactfully.

It is the politics that make nukes dangerous.  Which is why Iran having nukes would be very unsettling.

And the US has said they'd use a nuke as a first strike if they thought it would give them favorable terms for peace.

Russia and China would most definitely retaliate with nukes, regardless of tactical or strategic applications. As would any other nuclear country. This is basic MAD theory.

Iran getting a nuke gives them MAD protection, and everyone knows it. It's only unsettling if you expect to, either "regime change" or "liberate" Iran at some point in the future. If you don't expect to bomb Iran, then a nuclear Iran isn't a problem.

Well the battke field looks like this

Russia and China have mobile nukes, land, sea and air.  US does as well but land nukes tended to be silo based.  That is changing with land based cruise missiles, as the treaty failed.

Satelites track all of the above.  As well as all other i tel platforms available.

China and other nations have been developing anti-satelite missiles and technology.  As well as denial of information tech.

There just isn't enough money and time for anyone to clearly win.

I suspect small conflicts with the usual "this could flare and go nuclear" aspect.

Exactly. Proxy wars. Just as it has been throughout history. However, proxy wars are fought between non-nuclear countries.

So if Iran gets a nuke, then it becomes immune to a proxy war. Considering the two or three big powers in the middle east are Iran and Israel, and maybe SA but they're sorta on the same team as Israel and currently getting their shit kicked in by some rebels, Iran becoming a nuclear power makes them (a) equivalent to Israel, and (b) untouchable for the rest of the world.

Then the proxy war moves to SA, except SA has the US backing it up, so they aren't gonna be on the defensive for long.

I wasn't speaking of proxy wars, but that'd be better than skirmishes between super powers directly.

There won't be direct skirmishes between superpowers because that could lead to a nuclear exchange. There will only ever be proxy wars. The closest you will ever get to a skirmish between superpowers in modern times is one or more explicitly mercenary armies.

Not totally true.  There is pretty much a direct war in ukraine but ukraine is not yet nato.  Pretty much what it's about.

I'm sure US intel and spec ops are in ukraine killing russians and pro russian rebels.  Call it advising but we know they do more.

Russia denies their own involvment as so do we.  Basic cold war stuff but this is russias backyard.

We have no idea the extent we were involved with Chechnya either.  There's a lot more as to why shows like the stories of us seals has like 3 or 4 missions and that's it.

There's a thousand active seals and a thousand active marine spec op guys.  Not to mention a smorges borge of US Army special troops.  They operated in 140 sone nations in 2018.

It's just not propagandized like we're all gonna die....yet!
