Unicorn bag Cereal Rye only, peat based casing, then removing the bags to fruit?  Will this work like you see in the commercial operations? 

I'd like to setup shelving in a place where I can keep the temps and humidity controlled and just remove the bags once I get to the fruiting stage.

If I can maintain the temps and humidity will they be able to sit on something like rolling nsf style costco racks?

Is there any reason you could not use just rye the whole way thought?  Will they have trouble without sawdust or anything?  I was planning on just using a 10:0.5:0.5 peat/gypsum/ag lime mix for the casing after the spawn has been inoculated really well.  I'd like to just use a bubbas barrel to heat it up and saturate the grain, and leave it for a 24 hour soak/cook in the barrel, in bags, then go straight to the lab and apply the spawn, seal, and then open, add casing, let that grow up and pin, then cut the whole bag off once it starts to show signs of pinning or basically when the casing shows.

I was also thinking about just using a board with arrow blades mounted to it to puncture the bags so they would allow the pins to grow on all sides.  Will this happen?  Or will it just grow in certain areas?

I also have some feather meal and other products I use for gardening I thought about watering in the bags with, like fish hydrolysate, which is good for the myco growth in my garden.  This is all stuff I have laying around.  I have 5 gallon buckets each year from farming and compost teas.  Same with yucca extract for soap like hydration/ water wetter.

Probably one at a time in that order.  It’s just cheaper and easier for me to get straight rye if it will work.  I’m in the middle of nowhere but getting the grain in bulk tote bags is real easy and I have farm equipment to deal with it. 

Sawdust could work but I’m having trouble finding Oak and alder in quantities like that. 

I’m looking for help with neurological problems, nerve damage specifically.  So I’d like to really play with the lions mane.

Ok so with cubensis just go to shoe boxes, its super easy and u get great returns. use coir only.

Pasteurize coir using Bod bucket tek, its in my signature

The other 2 u really need the right conditions for colonisation and fruiting and definitely need the right substrate mix.

Straight grains with a casing layer is a lazy poormans route and it will take you 3-6 months down the line to realise that if you dont hear me now.  Id like to guess id get 3-4 times the harvest with a bulk substrate which costs a block of coir($1-$3) and some boiling water.

Lions mane works great just inoculating logs and you will have fruits for 5 years.  U dont need to much to medicate and so half a dozen logs would be more than enough

Do you have any links to best additives? 

I know where I can get shipyards full of this.  A friend has a soil facility.  Lol.  I didn’t realize that.

Yes, and I have read conflicting "Teks" which is interesting because many people have trouble with coir and many people say its perfect as is.  I know typically in the industry its saturated with 2.3EC Calcium nitrate to displace the potassium which is the single highest base saturation cation involved in the pH.  When you get rid of it the pH falls and the displacement of the potassium is due to the stronger ca++ bond. 

So the question is, if you are looking for a certain ratio or minimum to sustain life, and a good range to build the media up, I'd love a link to this. 

That is what I'm really after.  I get that I need sulfur and calcium, everything that sustains life does.  Anything with terpines or flavor/ flavanins has sulfur chains. 

What I'm asking is simple, lol... I always thought people used coco for casing, but not for the replacement of the carbohydrate source they are trying to enzymatically reduce.

I'm also trying to do this to scale for a winter crop that can be operated during the off season on the farm.  I think the anti-cancer properties are worth peoples attention within the community of friends I have.  Since it seems to work, I know people would want access to it. 

The question is, what is the cheapest easiest local commodity I can consistently obtain.  Then how do I make it perform well? 

I've been through plenty of books, I'm sure I'd surprise you what I do know and have done but that's not relevant to me trying to manuever into a more cost effective method. 

What links do you have for good coco-coir teks guys?

lion's mane = cococoir via this forum, but as far as I know they prefer maple, which doesn't grow in any place around me, except peoples front yards.

Seems like even reishi people are able to grow on coco-coir.

Lions mane - suplemented hardwood, maybe bran.  I would go to the edible and medicinal section and ask there.
