Keep your felonies to yourself. You are as immature as a teenager in your disregard for others and the ever present threat you pose to an unknowing employer.

A week or two goes by and one day for the hell of it I went to have a look at the substrate I dumped and lo and behold there’s still some life in it! I managed to pick a small ziplock bag full of little mushrooms and pins. I also grabbed a chunk of substrate and put it in a Solo cup, covered it with another Solo cup, and taped a backpacking head lamp over the (clear) cups to provide some light. I locked this little “terrarium” in my bottom desk drawer and over the course of few weeks I pull almost half an ounce (dry) off this little chunk of sub!

A half ounce dry off of a chunk of abandoned sub you threw in a solo cup...

You don't have to lie to kick it homie...

:justno:

TroutBum said:
I put 3 shoeboxes boxes each into 2 Amazon shipping boxes
(1BB size) which fit perfectly in the locker. For light I used 6 battery-powered, puck-style lights which came with a remote and with features such as dimming and a timer. FAE was provided by whatever air could make it into the locker.

Okay... air starved shoeboxes with terrible lights, and then?

I am only able to check my boxes, at most, once a day after all the other employees go home. There was also a week-long stretch that I was out of town on vacation and couldn’t do a thing (and came home to an 83g monster!).

Riiiiiigght... bro... Out of a shoebox in THOSE conditions? :laugh2:

In the end I harvested almost 7oz dry which is more than enough to keep me and a few friends happy for at least the next year.

Imaginary mush for you and your imaginary friends? I gotta give it to you. You really haven't let your imagination get stale in old age...

I’ll add some more to this post later; phone is about to die.

Pics or it didn't happen. I am willing to bet all the grown and cured mush and supplies I've got that there are no pics though...

Don't want to be a dick, but this is a crazy-sounding ill-advised garbage heap of a post.

First: there was a typo in the OP; the total from the Solo cup was not "almost a 1/2 oz". That should have read, almost 1/3 oz or just shy of 9g (gimmie a break, I was typing on my phone).

I can totally understand everyone's WTF?!?! responses. Honestly, I'm pretty shocked myself. I had very low expectations and was completely overwhelmed by the results. But since words mean very little in certain conversations....

The 83g fruit. 6.12g dry and bit of the stipe has broken off. So dry it's almost brittle. If you assume fresh mushrooms are 92% water that would make this one at least 76.5g. not including the bit that broke off which would add 0.53g to the total weight.

Menace variety; 68.49g after deducting for the bag (4.57g). Poor drying made these oxidize like a mofo and therefore lost a lot of potency.

Mazatapec variety. 71.49g after deducting for the bag (4.57g). Did a much better job drying and these turned out to be of higher potency.

So that makes 139.98g. total which does not include the 1.5oz I've since consumed or given away. And, FWIW, the yield was 25% BELOW average per qt of spawn. I didn't do very well by that number.

The chunk of sub in the Solo cup was a little bigger than a PF cake. According to posts here on Shroomery a PF cake can put out between 0-10g for 3 flushes so the number for my cup experiment is within reason.

For the shoeboxes, I think that if you read up on Bod's monotub and shoebox teks you'll see that you can attain an amazing level of success when your tubs are dialed in. I'm not suggesting that mine are (far from it) but I will say that many experienced TC's note that a properly set-up tub kind of takes care of itself. Heck, Bod puts his shoeboxes in a plastic grocery bag with holes punched in it. It's not like you need to do something all that complicated to grow these things, after all. I usually had about 20 minutes to mess with the shoeboxes each day, which was plenty. I would always mist a little heavy on Friday afternoons and once or twice I was able to get in on the weekend to check them when pins started.

Lights: these are the ones I use: https://www.amazon.com/Brilliant-Evolution-Wireless-Control-Lighting/dp/B01JTA4QXI/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=3578W8XZMC8ZI&keywords=puck+lights+with+remote&qid=1565667730&s=gateway&sprefix=puck+loght%2Caps%2C228&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEySEVNNkwwT0Y0OTBKJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTk5Mzc0MzdUSUlGMVFGOVlHNSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjcxNjEwMTNGRENVOU9HQ0lCNSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= ; I chose them for their battery life (100 hrs!) and not their spectrum, which totally sucks (3000K). I used 6 lights per box.

Again, I understand your disbelief but I have no reason to come in here and make a BS or trolling post. In conversations I've had with other forum users you'll see that I'm a sane, reasonable sounding person (go ahead, look them up).

This is what I did and this is how it turned out. I'm happy to field any question you may have to help back that up.

Oh! Funky Monkey; you can keep all your stuff. I've got plenty

I think he did shut it down.  He said they are dry and he has enough for a year.

Can't believe the flack this guy is getting.  I admire his courage and his love of mushrooms at nearly 50.  We need more people like this in the world.

Guy saw an opportunity and he took it.  No one needed to know and no one did, he pulled it off.  He knew what he was doing.

Stealth shoebox is a kickass way to grow undercover.  It's just a plastic box sitting there, could be hiding in plain sight almost.

Sorry, I was busy packing another full load into the 5 gallon monster.

But, :whathesaid:.

Since you DID post SOME KIND of pictures, I feel obligated to speak to what my eyes see. This is all the time I am going to spend on this thread, and then I'm gonna keep it pushing. As this "proof" is not proof at all.

TroutBum said:

So... that looks like the biggest piece(s) of a cap you pulled out of a bag of somebody's late flush batch, but it doesn't look like any single 6 gram fruit I've ever seen. That mess of mushroom(s) doesn't even look big enough to weigh 6 dry grams unless that scale is crazy big, with crazy big numbers on it for old folks to read when compared to a normal little digital scale. The visual "scale" is off to my eyes. Scales can be tared at any weight, load more on, and get any reading you like as we all know, so that questionable pic is not good enough visual proof to substantiate your claims.

But even if it was, giving you that, the fact remains that proof is never offered in dry fruit... You can get that from anywhere from anyone, and make up any story you like snapping pics of random bags of dried mush.

You need to show pics of the actual process to SOME extent. You can't bandy about dried fruits you could have got from any person on earth and say "Look! This off the wall shit I described was crazy successful! I have a couple bags of mushrooms as proof!"

Solo cup with a little chunk of abandoned substrate you left in the woods gave you a 1/2 an ounce, a 1/3 of an ounce, even an 1/8 of an ounce DRY, or whatever... C'mon bro. Pics or it didn't happen.

It didn't happen.

Wildly successful "solo cup fruiting chamber" that did better in your desk drawer than a cake in a proper fruiting chamber?

:justno:

I'm sorry. Not sorry. I call BS.

If they were poorly dried (therefore throwing off your results) by your own admission, why are we bothering to take the time discussing your yield results if you can't even properly dry and tell us what the real deal is?

I said what I needed to say about this above. Better than a PF cake in a solo cup in a desk drawer... Pics.

Even sane reasonable-sounding people spin some fantastic stories to feel cool or included. You don't have to lie to kick it homeboy. Lurkers are welcome!

As for how we happen to sound in our other posts, I am not usually taking such a hard line coming across like this, but this was fairly outlandish to not back up with pictures. You too can read my other posts to see that I am not usually pulling people's cards trying to call B.S. This was just that outlandish... Had to speak up. Maybe it was a waste of time...

I've been known to take the bait from a troll or two

I planed on it  You've got plenty of mush in those two bags, but not plenty of proof my friend.

P.S. - I would LOVE to eat my words and see you write up the first solo cup tek that replaces the cake side of cultivating! Woot-WOOT!

Wild claims require solid proof or any one of us would run into the same. I foresee a moderator cleaning this up at some point in the next purge. If you can't substantiate wild claims, it is just muddying the waters.

Also, maybe you missed the part where this guy cultivated in a place he had no right or permission to in people's place of work, and risk an employer's operation to whatever extent because he couldn't deal with his wife...

That alone is reason enough.

But again, PROOF OF WILD CLAIMS PLEASE, AND THANK YOU.

You're mad because I praised him, made a special post about it, yelling in all caps.

What's the wild claim, that that cap weighs 6 grams or that he grew mushrooms in shoeboxes in a locker at work?

And what's your deal judging his risk assessment of what he did?  You don't know anything about the place.

Two things:

It's not ok to put other people at legal risk, even an employer.  Not ever.

No fucking way did you get half an ounce dry off of a less than fist-sized chunk of sub.

Did you even read my posts...? No. that isn't my main contention, feel free to go back and reread.

JohnRainy said:

I do. It is a place of work for people that is not owned by him. And what's your deal minimizing this douche-baggery? It's not a game broskie. Get it together. Literally, every single poster on here agreed, or said something to that extent in one way or another...

JohnRainy, what's the deal? Is this your alternate account you were hoping to get established and now you are in your feelings about it because it didn't go well or something...?

When everybody else is saying the EXACT opposite, you've picked an interesting sword to fall on... I don't REALLY think that about the duplicate accounts, but nothing about this post (OPs post) was cool, responsible, or even substantiated. Pick your battles brother.

OP, cool you got some mush but now you know it's a bad idea to cult at work.

@funky- chill out bro. A cake can easily yield 9 grams and I don't doubt
OP actually did what he said he did. If I was gonna makeup a cult story,
I'd come up with something more bad ass than the OP.

Also, we've all seen your dehydrator build no need to post it everywhere.
Besides if you wanna go big, build yourself a cabinet dehydrator

Mine can fit 5lbs or more at a time. Most I've had in it was 3 at 1 time and had plenty of space.

So I see that cabinet build has a thermometer at the top, is it unnecessary to know the temp at the bottom of the chamber? I would guess so considering the element is limited, right?

I actualy move it around to check temps at different points. Once it's been
on for an hour or so, I can get the heat dialed in realy well and it stays at 160
at the bottom and 140 at the very top.

I had to put a baffle at the heat outlet hole to evenly disperse the hot air
throughout the entire thing but it gets lbs cracker dry in 24 hrs.
Gotta shuffle around the shelves every once in a while but no big deal.
