Absolutely NOT magic, very possibly *very* poisonous... like deadly poisonous. They look very much like young Galerina - we do have a lot of species of Galerina up here in the PNW, but you don't really want to mess with any of them.... Galerina autumnalis isn't colloquially known as "funeral bells" for nothing.

Do they not resemble Psilocybe yungensis?

I am not a mycologist, but I do have a few books describing this species and these pictures would match if they had a purple/brown sport print. Also I cant see the stem very well in these pictures..

I agree the deadly Galerinas also look like this. I would say it was safe to exercise caution but I would have investigated a little farther...

That does look similar, but Psilocybe yungensis wouldn't be found growing in the wild here. It's distribution is Northern Mexico south to Boliva, Columbia and Ecuador.

You dont think anyone in the PNW who like hiking in the outdoors has brought spores back for further cultivation?

I mean I may be crazy but Im glad at least someone thinks they look alike..

Yes actually - I highly doubt that....

I mean seriously, Galerina are *extremely* common up here - we probably have more species than any other place in the world. You will probably see some most every time time you are seeing any other mushrooms out here. The chances that some random person went to Mexico or Ecuador, brought back some spores of that Psilocybe and successfully seeded some random hiking trail at the top of a tall mountain with them are pretty astronomically low - even *if* they would grow here at all. I'm sure you've heard the phrase when you hear hoofbeats, (unless you are in Africa), don't think of zebras....

Not to mention that some species of Galerina are deadly, which would make it foolish to even bother to mess around with them unless you were extremely sure of yourself.

If you really want to find Psilocybe around here it's much easier and tons safer to go to a city park in the fall and look for cyanescans in the wood chips.

My comments  were  only for the curiosity sake. I’m not suggesting anyone eat them. I am suggesting we should all  take a closer look.

I'd compare it with Armillaria or Galerina, this is what came to my mind when I first saw your image but keep awaiting a Trusted Identifier for a positive ID.
