A little help with my car please

I was just stuck at the gas station. I didn't get gas while I was there I just ran in for a beer real fast. Well I came out and tried to start the car and NOTHING happened. No lights came on and nothing under the hood made even the slightest noise.

So I'm freaking out and calling people and pulling jumper cables out but before I start asking strangers to help jump off the car I say fuck it and try to start the car again. This time the radio comes on but not anything under the hood. So THEN I step on the gas pedal while turning the key and It started.

So I got the car home now what do I do? Does anybody know what's wrong?

Check your battery cables, look for corrosion, clean it off there is any and make sure they're on tight.

Def sounds like either the battery or something with the gas line not getting the gas to the engine.

But I presume something electrical is the issue due to you trying to turn and nothing the first time.

A make model and year would help.


How long did you drive prior to stopping at the gas station? I am assuming enough distance for the alternator to do its job.

2004 monte carlo.

The car sat for about a week and a half before I picked it up. Then I drove it on the highway for about 10 minutes before getting stuck at the gas station. I didn't see any corrosion or anything and it started up fine just now

If you can wiggle the cables it's not tight enough.

Every "dead car" problem I've ever had has been fixed with a new battery. It's too the point now I don't even really waste my time fucking with them when it even seems like a battery problem. I just replace it.

Def replace the battery. It sounds like it is bad.

The ten minute drive should have been long enough for the alternator to charge it back up but since it did not the battery sounds bad and the extended sit just allowed for the issue to finally arise.

Also. Don’t get Walmart batteries. I used them for my RV and vehicles. There was only one out of at least 15 I did not have to return after a month

Battery cables. My car used to do this to me. Had to shim the negative terminal on the battery to get the clamp tight.

Mine broke down one mornig  , a few minutes away from my work

THIS. I literally just had to do this with my neg terminal.....ugh I need to change them soon :/

And if it does continue to happen you could start blowing fuses or worse. Better to fix the problem properly before a bigger one arises.

My car has a similar issue. My battery has stupid internal side posts. Worst design ever. Its a good idea to keep an adjustable wrench in your car in case the battery terminals are loose.
