I like your list a lot. I'd agree that all of those are great directors. I've never seen any Elian Kizan movies but maybe I'll check one out now. Spielburg has directed some great movies. I also enjoy Terrintino's work. Reservoir Dogs was awesome and so was Pulp Fiction. I really like Oliver Stone. His style really speaks to me and always keeps the themes of the movie clear. He's probably my favorite. Following him is Burton, then Scorcase, then Spielberg, then Kubrik ------------------ What does it all mean?

Neverwhere- Personally, I hate the Oscars and never watch them. The Academy is constantly giving awards to people that don't deserve them. In my book, effort is more important than accomplishment. Besides, anybody that'll give Cuba Gooding Jr. an Oscar (for "Jerry Maquire") shouldn't be allowed to communicate in any way to the surrounding world. Explain the Kazan-Oscar situation. I'll bet my left testicle it was concerning his past as a member of the communist party...?

heh. personally, i love the oscars. although i agree that some times, the awards given out are undeserving. and othertimes, they are deserving.yes, you are right on the money: in last year's award show, Kazan was to be awarded the lifetime achievement award(i think.) many actors and other hollywood types decided to boycott Kazan by not clapping or anything when the award was presented because of his involvement in naming the communists in hollywood and the blacklisting that followed. many were not happy he recieved that award, and supposedly there was talk of a walk out, but we all know that would never happen.

Scorsese is one of the true greats and thats all there is to it. Oliver Stone is alright,if a bit nuts.Platoon was good,JFK was very good(unless your looking for facts ),The Doors was alright but they made Jim Morrison even more morbid than he really was(if such a thing is possible),Morrison did have a little bit of a sense of humor, sometimes. I like Coppala's earlier stuff from the 70's(I still think he hasn't totally recovered from those 2 or 3 years in the jungle filming Apocolypse Now ,great film but his last great film),Hitchhock was always great,Robert Altman's early stuff was good to(MASH,the movie NOT the tv show),Kubrick was great(Full Metal Jacket is one of my favorite movies of all time),Tarantino is good. ------------------ The dude abides

i really really like david lynch. his style is so fuckin' awesome. it's all dreamy and crazy. his movies are like when you're going to say something but can't remember it, but you still sort of can. i also love kubrick (of course), kevin smith, tarantino, oliver stone (i fuckin' love natural born killers... i think that or lost highway is the best directed movie ever). in case you can't tell i'm a huge fan of symbolism and imagery. richard linklater is fuckin' awesome too. if you even halfway like suburbia or dazed and confused you gotta find slacker. tim burton is pretty good... he has a really gothic style.------------------ "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist"

I think Sam Raimi is signed to do the new "Spiderman" movie. I liked his "A Simple Plan," but "The Quick and the Dead" was terrible.(I hope I'm thinking of the correct director up there ) Speilburg is good, I agree. With him, though, it's a matter of personal taste when I say he's never really said anything to me save "Saving Private Ryan" (I bet a lot a people can say the same, too).
David Lynch! Yes! The guy's a master of making a dream out of a movie! As for Tarantino, his shots are the only things I find interesting about his directing (aside, of course, from his ever-famous run-on dialogue that Kevin Smith's writings resemble). ...Actually, now that I think about it, he also has the uncanny ability to select the most effective soundtracks imaginable.
