I want to move to Hawaii

I'm tired of living were I live, I want to get away and go to a tropical paradise.

first off you pay all these taxes living here and all you get is a train ride and some concerts a couple times a year a beach
it's just not worth it to me, not for half of my min wage salary every year

secondly the beach isn't that great, the water is gross, no waves

I want to move to hawaii, it gives me all of the features of living in the phillipines plus everyone speaks english, you don't have to deal with crappy culture, jus regular ass people most likely
the weather is probably always nice, you never need to spend money on heating oil, never have to worry about fixing the roads every winter

my father spent a lot of time in Hawaii in the military. Says its basically houston in the middle of the pacific, and was disappointing. brother in law too. both said they wouldn't go back.

better off going to the desert

Keep in mind that the grass is always greener. What island would you be  considering move to?

Hawaii is considerably more expensive to live than mainland U.S.A. There aren't many jobs available either - even with a university degree. If you're looking to live off of the land, you'd have a better opportunity by saving money and buying property somewhere in the Caribbean.

I've been working in SE Asia for the past year and have a few Filipino coworkers. From what they've told me, living in the Philippines is more than affordable with a western salary. In fact, you'd be considered extraordinarily rich if you have more than ten grand in your bank account. You can purchase a plot of land that is a few acres as well as build and completely furnish a two story contemporary style home for a sum total around $5000 USD. I doubt a normal person could live off of that amount of money for more than two months in Hawaii.

Almost everybody speaks English and Spanish in the Philippines.

What do you mean by "crappy" culture. Take it with a grain of salt if you wish, but I dare you to spend some time in some third world and developing countries. You'll quickly realise just how fortunate you are.

I'm not a pessimist. I suggest that you do more research or at least attempt to expose yourself to extended international travel. As an American, it's not as expensive as most Americans think. If you're from Europe, you should know this already.

one day i'd get a letter in the mail in a different language and the next i'd be out on the street
at least that's what i'd imagine

That doesn't make sense to me. There are many, many expats who live in the Philippines. English is the lingua franca around the world. Most countries communicate official documents in two languages. Usually it is in the indigenous language as well as English. You wouldn't have to worry about any language barrier. Feel free to PM me if you've any questions. I can vouch that you'd be fine in a foreign country if your native language is English. In fact, you'd have more opportunities for work than most indigenous people.

In terms of the Philippines, as long as you don't live in Manila and you stay away from illegal activity, you can have a pleasant, relaxed life.

Hawaii is an awesome place to live. I grew up on the Big Island, great place to grow up.

There are a couple draw backs. Little concerts and if there are, its reggae (hope u like reggae!), its expensive, and Ive heard its getting more crowded lately. Also, youre on an island, so theres limited places to go.

Other than that, beaches are beautiful, the tourists and locals are beautiful, its got that culture, delicious O'no kine food, its got that chill Hawaiian-style life plus lots of skimboarding and surfing in the winter (when theres waves) :yesnod:

My favorite islands are the Big Island (my home), Maui (a lot like Hawaii but more sandy beaches), O'ahu (like a big city) and Kauai (jungle Hawaii).


Make sure u have some kind of job lined up or u will struggle with money.

Anyway Hawaii is fucking amazing, spent a lot of time on Kauai and the big island.

It’s expensive compared to most of the rest of the us but I already live in Southern California, it’s not that much of a shock, actually I’d say groceries were about the same price as here when I went to Kauai about a year ago. Rent is retarded now in Southern California too.

I love Hawaii. It’s a really special place. I’ll be going back again soon

Most of Hawaii is overrun with tourists and is crazy expensive to live. You could go to Puna on the Big Island but then you might have a volcano open up in your back yard.

The tropics offer all kinds of opportunities outside of the US. If you get your TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate you can land in basically any country and have a job the next day. Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos all have great opportunities for Expats. It's a big fucking world, man, you just have to go.
