Police in Brazil have taken a parrot into custody following a raid to arrest crack dealers, according to media reports. Police in the village of
Vila Irmã Dulcein the northern part of the country reported that the parrot tipped off dealers by shouting “Mum, the police!” as officers approached.

“He must have been trained for this,” said a police officer who participated in the raid in the capital of Piauí state. “As soon as the police got close he started shouting.”

Arrested Parrot No Stool Pigeon
A Brazilian reporter who observed the parrot after it was confiscated said that the animal was “super obedient,” although it was apparently refusing to talk to police.

“So far it hasn’t made a sound … completely silent,” the reporter said.


A local veterinarian agreed that the bird was no stool pigeon.

“Lots of police officers have come by and he’s said nothing,” said Alexandre Clark.

Jailbreak Planned for Bird Behind Bars
Globo, a Brazilian broadcaster, reported that the “papagaio do tráfico” (drug trafficking parrot) had been turned over to a local zoo and would be released in the wild after spending three months learning how to fly.


Brazilian drug dealers have enlisted animal accomplices in the past, according to The Guardian. In 2008, after a raid at a favela in western Rio de Janeiro police seized two small alligators that local gangsters had purportedly fed their rivals to. But the father of one of the arrested criminals said the rumor wasn’t true. In fact, he said, the alligators had refused to eat a corpse that the gang had given to them.

How the fuck did they train the parrot to recognize police in uniform? Im not buying it. Aparrotly this article is a scam.

The thing is though, I wouldn’t put it past a parrot to learn how to do that...  they’re pretty smart, it doesn’t seem like a stretch at all..

I reckon so. We have a conyer, its taken lots of practice just to get it to say simplish words like, peekaboo and and wuuuut, however it does love our music playlist and we've taught it to dance. I guess it comes down to the species. Now I'm gonna teach mine to say fuk da police. :cool:

But you can't train a bird to refuse to chirp. You have to communicate with it to teach it things. Birds are gonna yap regardless.:lol:

Well at least you know for certain that its impossible, doesn't sound so far fetched. Animal actors exist for gods sake, the stuff they can train animal actors to do blows my mind

Training an animal not to make a racket most of the time, yeah, thats clearly impossible. Maybe you're under the impression that parrots are different, maybe they are, but my chickens can be trained like any other animal.

They’re just like dogs, you can tighten them down pretty well with some effort.  You have your people who teach sit and stay and then you have those dudes with Australian Shepherds and frisbees and all that class.  I wonder what kind of bird it was..

What Im saying is moat parrots aren't gonna sit there in silence when a stranger/random officer walks up to communicate with it. I agree they can be taught to recognize imagery and pickup sound, but you cant teachm to shut the hell up. Believe I live with one. Id pay someone to train it not to talk I work all the time and hear peekabo peeeekabo peeekabo until the lights go off :mad2:

IME they are way smarter than dogs.

I used to have a close friend with an African Grey.

You could damn near have conversations with that thing. And they didn't "train" it at all.

It would ask questions, and I don't just mean repeat questions it would ask questions that HE wanted answers to.

Recognize people, activities. Could read a room.

IF a parrot could learn to recognize police, depending on what kind of bird we are talking about here, I have no doubt that one could pick up or emulate a dislike/fear of police officers that it was no doubt always surrounded by, no training necessary.

Probably wasn't the first time the thing had witnessed a police raid either. If this story is true it probably just picked up that kind of reaction.

But everything after its "arrest" is either bullshit, or is being caused by mishandling/poor treatment/stress.
