My credit card number got stolen by someone I know

So last month I had some people over and some things went missing I didn't put in a police report but someone told me that this kid took my credit card. I checked my credit cards and had all of them know I checked my monthly balance and there's a ton of transactions like Uber (which I don't use) and some other shit. I told my credit card company and they shut down the card and put it in as fraud. The thing is I know who did it, do you think they'll get caught? He's an idiot and was using it for things in the area and obviously under his name with Uber. You think if I told them that would help them out any? He used a few hundred dollars on the card so I'm kinda pissed. Can't hangout with trash no more...

Are you sure that someone wasnt the actual theif?

If you were to prosecute someone, ud need solid evidence. You cant just point fingers and think he will tell the truth. If you can find an uber transcript with whatever phone number or account he is using, and link it up to the pay date he used it for, then you could have a case.

You have to take out charges on dude in ordse for the bank to refund you.

If you don't they wont.

Uber could help you too they know keep list of transactions, who the driver was etc. Ask if they can assist. Get the driver supoena to court and identify the dude.

Good point. If OPs going to get authorities involved he better hide everything in preparation of some retaliation. Or like someone else said, handle it the old fashioned way. Although he could get authorities involved for that too so :shrug:

Well op doesn’t have to get his money back, the credit card should handle that. What bank/issuer is this credit card from?

Whether or not you turn him in should have no affect on whether you get your money back, really. 

The only thing I worry is that the credit card company might say, oh this was a ‘friend’ of yours who we think you let use the card so we’re not categorizing this as fraud, you’re fucked.

That’s why I’d just tell them the card was stolen and the charges are fraudulent, and leave it at that. Let them figure out who did it. Maybe I’m just being paranoid

No, beating somebody up for stealing your credit card is stupid.

The credit card covers cases of fraud like this. Why get in a physical confrontation with somebody when it can be avoided? I’ll save that for stopping a rape or something. Fist fights are for drunk 22 year olds.
