Paid over 4,400 in taxes last year , only got 400 back in my income tax ... Why ? * 1

I made about 25,000 last year and paid over 4,000 in taxes.. I am only getting 404 dollars back..    In the past I would usually get 1000-1500.      Why does the government take so much in taxes from a peAsent such as myself ? And why do they give back so little ?        This abomination makes a tax paying peon want to work under the table... Does the government not realize this ?

The US government is trying to pay off some past debt they owe.

Im there too man, only got like $270 back from mine, and I payed quite of bit of taxes last year. I believe it has to do with new structuring in the income brackets.

Got both of you beat only got $13 back, but I used my flowhood and AA930 as tax write offs...so uncle sam paid for my equipment to grow

You gotta be an uneducated person if you think the reason your taxes return is lower because of Obama it’s all the giant Cheetos fault he has ruined this country and turned it into a dictatorship just wait. America is turning into North Korea fast. That fool cut taxes to all his buddy’s and anybody with money doesn’t pay taxes look at Amazon who made 10.8 billion dollars and paid 0 taxes but you who works your hands to the bone like me get scraps back gonna stay that way as long as that orange hairs raciest is in office

Trump and the republicans gave your money to the rich folks in the form of tax cuts.  The poor people's tax cut was temporary; the rich people's cuts were permanent.

My parents owed 50,000 in taxes this year. They sold a house they used to rent out and I guess you have to pay Taxes on earnings.

So stupid you buy a house, pay a mortgage for 20 years to pay it off on top of property taxes, then once it's all paid off you have to keep paying property taxes. The kick in the nuts? When you go to sell it...more taxes!

This is what big government Socialists want. Think twice before you support this time of tyranny. We don't need, want, or benefit from Uncle Sam dipping his Chimo fingers in our back pocket every time we turn around! :crankey:

On the bright side I myself only owed around $300. I was expecting a return but apparently I made more this year than last or something. The tax code itself is a joke that no one truly understands. What's that say about our system? :strokebeard:

I work landscaping , don't own a car , don't own any property and can't afford healthcare.    Yes I am richer than u by far :lookslucrative:

Do you have kids? My neighbor got like 8 grand from his kids alone. For my tax situation I just didn't pay enough throughout the year. You overpaid if you got a big return and don't have kids. That's them giving back your money, whereas I didn't pay enough.

It's not due to me making a lot of money. I made less than 50k last year. Honestly I have no idea why I owed, but that's $150 to Federal and $150 to State (rounding but the overall total owed was $300). I assume I need to adjust my deductions on the W2 through HR for next year if I don't want to owe again.

The 50 grand my parents owed was from selling a property not from working

The way tax laws work you're actually feeling the prior administration's work now. If trump fucked it up worse you'll be feeling that in 2+ years.

If you want more than $400 back at the end of the year change your withholding or make more than 12 an hour or start having a bunch of kids

I hear you but even 30k a year is not a living wage in my honest opinion.      My brother got his car insurance agent certification a couple of years ago.... Now he has somebody working for him and he's making 20k a month... I think I'm gonna go that route

30k is absolutely a living wage if you live within your means. After tax what's your paycheck like a little over 500 a week? 2k a month

You can afford your own one bedroom at 500-750/mo. A car payment that's at or  under 300/mo. Internet insurance food and some going out $.

I'm stuck living in Austin Texas. I cannot afford to move.    I'm paying 1,100 for a 1 bedroom apartment.
