Since Shiva is above using skin color as a descriptor, I expect I won't ever hear him use those adjectives again.

As for the rest of the world...

I guess they didn't get your memo.

"I refute your rebuttal."  "I am calling your argument hypocritical."

Those aren't just magic phrases that win the debat,  you still need to provide an actual argument.

I explained how 'privilege' generally describes an aspect of caste system, and 'white privilege' specifically describes an aspect of a caste system based on white skin colour.

I also explained that there is a difference between describing aspects of race based caste-systems and adopting the use of race based caste-systems. To acknowledge that a race-based caste-system which puts white skin tone at the top results in white privilege is not a racist attack on white people.

You do not appear to address either argument in your refutation. Your only argument seems to be agreeing with another poster in stating that I use white in place of European but Asian in place of muslim, and therefore my argument is hypocritical. I would like to point out that you did not actually provide any evidence for this claim. If you look at my posts you will find that I prefer to be more specific in my language, although I unavoidably will use race-based categories on occasion when they are relevant to the discussion (ie, about race-based caste systems).

If you prefer, I could say 'the privilege of people deemed white by the arbitrary categories of a race-based caste-system which places light skin-tone at the top of the hierarchy' in place of 'white privilege', but most of society has decided that white privilege is sufficient and don't remain willfully ignorant of the accepted definition.

The way I see things, you are the backtracking from your initial concession and one ignoring my clarifying posts.

Whites get treated better than blacks, on average.  What would YOU like to call that, if not "white privilege"?

It's an endless road to go down and really not worthy of discussion.

Your argument is moot.

You say, don't use pseudoscientific descriptors like "white," yet you are touting about how white people are privileged, which is not always true.

Agree to disagree, mate.

It's like, why even concede that race-based categories are arbitrary pseudoscience and then backtrack because you perceive me being hypocritical in my stance?

Does my alleged hypocrisy take away from the initial criticism I made against race-based categories (that you agreed with), or does it take away from my own personal character because my own behaviour don't line up with my (correct) stated position?

My being hypocritical or not has no bearing on the initial argument. You just appear to be unwilling to let go of this outdated and unscientific method of human classification, and grasping at any straws that will help you in this.

You will continue to call Europeans white, but you will not call Asians by their skin color.

This is your hypocrisy.

"Your argument is moot."

Also not a magic phrase.

I have sufficiently explained why there is a difference between describing aspects of race-based caste-systems and adopting the use of race-based caste-systems. That you refuse to acknowledge this doesn't matter - this isn't a case of "agree to disagree", it is you displaying a willful ignorance when given an opportunity to learn and improve as an individual.

That's on you.

To repeat myself: if you prefer, I could say 'the privilege of people deemed white by the arbitrary categories of a race-based caste-system which places light skin-tone at the top of the hierarchy' in place of 'white privilege', but most of society has decided that white privilege is sufficient and don't remain willfully ignorant of the accepted definition.

Thing is, people of African descent never asked to be classified as "black" or Asians as "yellow". Its a color coded caste system imposed by people of european descent with the crystal clear intent of moving people into "categories that are not us" for unsocial, pseudoscientific and quasipolitical reasons that all amount to racism.

Sometimes acknowledgement of skin colour is contextually appropriate, but placing people in race-based categories has never been something I've done.

Are those statements meant to be contradictory? Because they aren't. Can you not provide an actual argument in defense of your position?

That was a joke in response to Asante, that took place outside of our conversation. Yellow, or yellow-bellied, is slang for cowardly. The joke was in my intentional conflation of your use of yellow to imply Asian, with an alternative meaning, in order to reinterpret your post as meaning something contrary to your original intent.

Just another example of conservative inability to understand satire.

It is a contradiction.

In one paragraph you call skin color pseudoscience. In the other paragraph you say that using skin color can be appropriate.

Let me guess, you are the arbiter of when it is appropriate to use skin color?
