Fair enough.

Does this mean you will disavow the term "white privilege."

"White privilege" is a term for a sociological effect caused by the widespread belief in a racial skin-colour hierarchy that puts 'white skin' at the top. It is not the racial skin-colour hierarchy itself.

When the false belief that skin colour is a valid predictor of human behaviour/genetics has been put to rest, then white privilege can be put to rest too - but not before.

You are playing semantics and I am calling BS. There is already a term explaining generational class: caste system.

You are back tracking.

Whenever it suits your narrative, you are willing to call people white and privileged -- blanket statements based on race.

With that said, I take back my concession.  You use skin color to portray certain images of whites and only whites, which makes your argument moot.

The answer is no, the hypocrite will keep labeling peoples of European descent "white". And the Euro news will keep using the word "asian" when they want to obscure the rampant migrant crime of the brown muzzies. And when the yellow vest movement gets too loud to ignore, they'll call it "supremacy" and "hate" in a lame attempt to shoot down the legitimate grievances of the native population.

"Caste system" is a general term that doesn't describe the specific aspects of a caste system based on a skin-colour hierarchy that puts white skin on top; because of this we also have more specific terms - like racial segregation, systemic racism, and white supremacy.

In the same way "privilege" is a general term describing the societal behaviours that benefit upper-caste members, but doesn't describe the specific aspects of privilege based on a skin-colour hierarchy that puts white skin on top; because of this we also have more specific terms - like racial bias and white privilege.

Do you suggest we limit all conversation on the sociological effects of caste-systems to the most general of description?

Not at all. White privilege is not the only form of privilege - it's just one of the predominant forms of privilege in western/European society.

In the same way, just because I actively criticize white supremacy doesn't mean I am willing to call people white and supremacist. Criticism of white supremacy doesn't imply that I'm using skin colour to portray certain images of "whites and whites only". Not all white people are supremacists, and not all supremacists are white.

Describing aspects of race based caste-systems is not equivalent to adopting the use of race based caste-systems.

To be honest, I think you are confused about what white privilege actually describes. I've found this analogy to be good: Straight White Male: The Lowest Difficulty Setting There Is

Hopefully this clears my position up to you.

You know that is not the same, at all.

Context matters, I think you would have a hard time finding a plurality of people of Asian descent who say they aren't offended by being called yellow; it has a long history of being used as a slur.

Just because it has become acceptable to use the terms white and black to describe Caucasians and those of African descent doesn't remove the offensiveness of the word "yellow". Negro also means black, but that doesn't make it less offensive.

As you would know if you read th thread, or got your information outside of the right wing, fake news, propaganda, infosphere; you would see that people have been condemning the action of the Buddhist majority in Myanmar for a LONG time now, and these condemnations are MOSTLY coming from the LEFT.

The right doesn't make a fuss over genocide, the more nations that commit genocide and atrocities against ethic minorities, the more it enables them to do the same. They would be hypocrites if you denounced it.

And what is so ironic about this thread, is YOU aren't denouncing it, YOU aren't saying it is wrong. You are USING IT, to justify the same actions by white Christians, you are OPENLY saying that what is happening to Muslims in America and by implication Israel is just fine...and you are erroneously trying to claim that somehow, IF the left failed to condemn such actions in one place, it would excuse it everywhere.

So answer my questions, XUL...

And are you implying that either of these are OK?

Do you support white Christians persecuting Muslims?

In America, yellow is slang for coward. I think XUL is calling the Buddhists of Myanmar cowardly for not disavowing the racist bigotry in their country even though it runs contrary to Buddhist morals.

I already did. I refute your rebuttal. You haven't changed my mind. White privilege is a racist term that seeks to attack whites based on skin color. Classic democratic racism.

I took back my concession due to your hypocrisy.

Like Scott said, you will use white when talking about Europeans, but use asian to confuse the populace about native Asians v. Muslim immigrants.

If you drop the white privilege crap, I will talk to you. Otherwise, I am calling your argument hypocritical.

*Awaits personal attacks

Regardless, the poll shows that people tend to believe neither scenario is racist.

Whites get treated better than blacks, on average.  What would YOU like to call that, if not "white privilege"?

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.
