Yellow Supremacy in Burma * 1
    #25922551 -

Yellow Buddhists do not like Muslims encroaching on their culture.

I am wondering how many leftists will disavow these yellow Buddhists as racist bigots?

Quote:
There is a history of persecution of Muslims in Myanmar that continues to the present day.[2] Myanmar is a Buddhist majority country, with a significant Muslim minority. While Muslims served in the government of Prime Minister U Nu (1948–63), the situation changed with the 1962 Burmese coup d'état. While a few continued to serve, most Muslims were excluded from positions in the government and army.

More than the number of conservatives who will disavow Christians for opposing Islam...

In fact, if you could turn off Fox News and the Daily Mail, you would see the persecution occuring in Myanmar is a major discussion topic in many media outlets who while considered left leaning are generally factual.

And are you implying that either of these are OK?

Do you support white Christians persecuting Muslims?

Even IF a plurality of ANY group approved of the persecution of Muslims by the Buddhists in Myanmar...how does that somehow mean its OK for white Christians to persecute Muslims?

I really want to denounce the genocidal acts of Myanmars Buddhist majority population, but I can't because they aren't white male Christians; said no one ever.

Because he himself is a bigot, I assume he is referring to the Bamar people, which are referred to as "Burmese". Who are generally lighter skinned than the Rohingya population. Or Shan, who are lighter skinned than the Bamar. The Bamar make up 66% of the Myanmar population, the Shan 9%

He doesn't even understand why it is wrong to refer to them as "yellow". And there are nearly 20 different ethnic groups making up Myanmar, many of them are not Buddhists.

You’re new here, which is not a problem, but this type of mental gymnastics is common among a few posters. So buckle up.

The Buddhist majority in Myanmar has been highly criticized for decades.

Another XUL strawman.

Interesting topic. There's also a Mongolian "supremacist" group called Tsagaan Khas. I could be wrong but I suspect their ethos can be summed up in 14 words.

Is calling a Caucasian a "white" also bigotry?  What about a Negro a "black"?

Monks wear yellow...

that was my initial thought
but wrong tradition; monks in Myanmar are of the tradition that wear Saffron robes
Yellow shows up among robes from Tibetan traditions
but Tibetan traditions are generally Mahayana/Vajrayana while Myanmar has Therevada as its main school

for those unfamiliar with Buddhism
Therevada pertains to Buddhism as it was believed to be practiced in the time of the Buddha
for the sake of parallels, this is roughly 'equivalent' to Judaism
with Tibetan Buddhism being from traditions that developed from teachings originating much later and attributed to supernatural teachers or the Buddha through supernatural means centuries after his death
so, for the sake of parallels, that would make Tibetan Buddhism roughly 'equivalent' to Christianity or Islam in this regard

Tibetan monks are typically the most socially visible monks, which could influence a perception that yellow robes are more broadly Buddhist
but the actual traditions that wear yellow rather than orange/saffron are quite different from the dominate tradition in Myanmar

I said it because my Korean roommates would refer to their yellow skin.

Similarly, Europeans are labeled white.

How come you extend the label of 'yellow' to one Asian ethnic group (the Bamar people of Myanmar), but not to the other Asian ethnic group (the Rohingya people of Myanmar)?

It's almost as if racist categories are highly arbitrary and useless as a system of categorization.

I don't know.

Why are whites called white?

Is Obama white because he had a white mother?

Similarly, Muslim arabs married into the Burmese population. Is a brown and yellow parented baby considered yellow or brown? Is a white and black parented baby considered white or black?

Like I have been saying all along, Obama won because of white privilege.

Many Arabs are technically Asians too, but using the colour system we would assume brown Arabs to have more in common with brown Mexicans, than with their own yellow neighbours. Ridiculous nonsense, and really only proves my point.

I was hoping you might reach the conclusion that the racist skin-colour system is arbitrary pseudoscience that should left behind in the past.

Ask yourself this: would excluding the yellow and white designations from my post have obscured the intended meaning?
