How does my moisture level look? First pins spotted and now they're growing haywire Updated pics)
    #25907926 -

It's been 14 days since I put everything into the tub. I spotted the first few tiny pins today.

How does the moisture level look to you guys? I would prefer not to mess with it.

Also, what are the next steps I need to take now and how long should it take before I can harvest?

next time try to get a flat, level substrate so it pins evenly.

Looks good really...I would maybe give it a little more air, but other than that expect to harvest in the next couple of weeks.

Only if the surface drys out...Right now I wouldn't mist it! It looks really good. Just give a little more FAE to really get the pins to pop!

It doesn't look bad at all.
A little more FAE and you're all set.

So there are a lot of pins popping up now which is awesome! but, there are a ton, at least 50 pins that are growing in all directions along the sides of tub.

I have 2 questions:

1. Did i mess up something to cause this to happen?
2. What do I do with those, will they be okay still?

I’m really new to all this so correct me if I’m wrong anyone, but I think the cause for pinning on the side is because the light hits it. I’ve heard you can stop it by lining your tubs with trash bags.

Lining your tub with a trash bag will help prevent side pins, but light is not the cause. you can use clear trash bags if you want.

Side pins are caused by the ideal growing conditions between your sub and the walls of the tub. The trash bag will shrink with your sub, cutting off airflow to the sides, which will encourage pins to pin on the top.

OP, they are completely fine to eat. kind of hard to get to though.

So here are some updated pics from today. The mushrooms are going fucking crazy along the sides, like hundreds of pins. There are probably only 20-25 decent small pins on surface.

I know you said it's because growing conditions are better along sides. Do i need to mist the top or should I leave it alone?

It’s weird with the side pins.  I always used liners and one clone kept blobbing on the surface and pinning on the bottom and sides and the fruits would push the liner away from the sub.  I tried the same clone without liners and it fruits out of the top without any blobs, it still puts pins out of the sides on secondary flushes, but the majority come on the top.  Now I don’t use liners, I feel like I get better top flushes overall.
Is it pinning on the bottom.

I say just let it be, give it time. It looks moist in the pics.

IME side pins start really strong, but don't get that big. You should still get a good flush on top.

Okay! thanks man. What happens if the side pins sit there for too long? will they die off and cause contamination?

I’ve never had contamns start on the old fruits, it’s always where the sub is too moist or too dry and the fungus gets weak.  If it fruits off top bottom and sides I usually try to let the top do its thing and pull off all the fruits when they are ready.  Then carefully flip the sub around in the tub to get the side and bottom fruits.  It’s tough work, you break off fruits, and crack the sub, but it’s better than nothing.  If the fruits are all shitty and have coir all up in em i either throw them away or leave them on the sub, and like I said, they are not the first thing to go bad, only contamn I’ve had on fruits is when they are under the sub and they get all slimy those go into the compost.
Some folks might have had fruits go bad, but the actual body of the fungus seems pretty resistant to things living on it.
