Some wood loving projects

Lions mane . Im hopeful for this, I really can tell a difference when taking it in capsules..3/4 are Allenii on cardboard and shavings, turned loose in wood, straw,and soil mound.. The straw bale has Allenii and Psi.Cyan stuffed 2-4" into (be rad if it worked).. The last one is cardboard rolls with grain centers with psi.cyan and just buried right at the humus layer (oak /straw) then covered in straw..

Just trying some things out, nothing was ever sterile, everything was from wild collections, into active areas..

The benefit of woodlovers and keeping cultivation outdoors is you don't need to be sterile. You can expand mycelium indefinitely on cardboard and wood chips with no issues because its those species ecological niche.

If you're starting out woodlovers (say, azures) on sterile agar, at what point do you not have to worry about sterility? My guess is that you'd go to sterile grains first and then spawn grains to wood chips / cardboard / other wood-based bulk in a non-sterile environment when colonized, but maybe you could skip the grains and go straight to the woody substrates from agar instead?

You could take a fully colonzied agar wedge to cardboard open air. I would probably sterilize wood chips in a jar and drop a wedge myself to get things started. But ive put grocery store oysters straight to cardboard with no issues. I think its colloquially called the cardboard cloning tek

Cool, I was actually planning on the second option (agar to sterile wood chips) with the azure plates I've got growing out now, so will stick to that.

Random but do you know if anyone's tried using sunflower seed hulls for this purpose? Tried searching on here but every post seems to be about the seeds in WBS, not the hulls themselves. I have a ton of those lying around, and was thinking that they're similarly high in lignin but may be easier for the new myc to colonize than hardwood chips but without being as mushy as sawdust or cardboard. I've done some research and found that they work as a substrate for edibles (e.g., https://www.researchgate.net/publication/284665938_Sunflower_seed_hulls_as_an_alternative_substrate_for_shiitake), but would they work the same for azures?

From cardboard, I put a few into jars and bags of oak chips or pine shavings soaked in garden lime and gypsum, or grain and gypsum. The grain was really fast and after it was fully colonized but not firm it was broke up and layed out on wet cardboard, rolled and put into bags. I noticed alittle contamination on the outside of the rolls but the white soon started morphing about merely so they went on there way..
