Having problems finding a product marked as "Wood Chips" I can however obtain wood shavings! Will this shit do for wood lovers: Azure & Cyan? Edit: I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, its just the generic shit you can buy for your Rabbit's hutch.

not sure, as in the uk most wood shavings are pine or spruce, so contain a lot of resins. I had trouble finding hardwood too, so i go into the woods and cut hazel, elm. maple and oaks. Then shred them in a garden chipper. Try also pet stores for eco cat litter, thats just compressed wood shavings, but youed have to read the small print to find out if its hardwood or not.

My friend had a difficult time find hardwood chips for his Shiitakes. He finally found alder chips at a barbecue and smoker supply outlet.

Wood shavings will suffice for cyan/azure spawn production, but for final fruiting you really want more substantial sized pieces of wood [woodCHIPS]. Wood shavings can be spawned and compressed into a fruiting block for things like reishi, oyster, etc., but it's relatively easy to get a hold of sawdust for that. Here's an old successful azure spawn amplification using 'aspen shavings': I had a post somewhere on the subject, can't find it now.

OK I've managed to get hold of the following hardwood chips. I'm hoping to transfer my Cyan/Azure initial grain spawn to bags of this for the main spawn run.
After my bags have colonized, would using more of these chips for the fruiting stage work? Or would I need bigger ones again?

Thanks

Those chips look pretty good! Stamets recommends a mix containing even larger ones, a few inches in length. Variable sizes. I can tell you that I've found plenny-o-cyanescens in beds with chips that size

if your looking for a good wood try " cedar " untreated chem free,,,, a if you manage to find some fresh cedar go in to your garage and hack the hell out of it with a hatchet and then soak it in warm water for 24 hours and place in a pyrex dish and roast like a turkey with tinfoil over the top until it is dry. Then soak 1 more time and PC in a bag if your able to.
