Coir does not need to be sterilized. Most bulk substrates don't need to be sterilized, or shouldn't be sterilized. I have seen some anecdotal evidence that sterilized vs pasteurized coir has no impact on the results. I do a bod's bucket tek, which has performed excellently. Part of that performance is ease of preparation, and cost of materials: chuck a quantity of coir brick into a cooler, with some hot water, leave it overnight and stir at some point.

What does seem to be beneficial from heat treatment of coir is the "cooking" of the coir, making it a bit easier for the mycelium (or possibly symbiotic bacteria) to eat, but there is a pasteurization effect: The temperatures during prep will kill off all mould spores, including coir with added trich. The temperatures the coir experiences during manufacturing (700F I recall from these forums) will kill everything.

Every single one of my losses to mould can be attributed to bad spawn. Actually, almost every single time I prep coir, I forget to clean out my cooler and throw out the excess coir. When I come back to it days or even weeks later there is absolutely zero growth of any mould or bacteria.  If you are experiencing problems with contamination, I would look back at your cultures. I don't believe you will see any difference in contamination rates by adding H202 to your coir prep.

Different substrates require different treatment, and the prep of grasses, stray and hay are different to the prep of coir. Mixing around teks often ends up in disappointment.

I stand to be corrected, however! Coir is the best bulk substrate for me, and the coir I buy is cheap and an excellent fruiting substrate. Your coir may need some extra prep work. I doubt it, though.
