Which ethnos do you give filtered water to?
    #25765983 -

I'm trying to cut down on my store bought water usage by determining which ethnos I currently have that really require that clean of water.
Right now I'm actively growing:
Kava
C. zacatechichi
B. caapi
M. speciosa and hirsuta

Honestly, I kind of feel like all of these can handle the tap water here.
I can't remember what the water pH is from tap in this city, but I know it's not too far off from 7, and it gets better if left to sit overnight.

Do you guys differentiate between which plants get better water (besides the obvious ones like coca)?

As far as I knew... No plant "needs" filtered water. Unless your tap water is basically not even drinkable, then it's fine for your gardening needs.

I have grown basically all of the above in the past. Not once did I use anything other than tap water...

I would agree, I don't think any of them NEED filtered water. I give all of my favorite plants tap water. When I can, I usually go and get water from the mountains though, it's just a preference though it's not a requirement. Also in the summer time they get hose water which is basically tap water but outside.

If your that concerned about it, I do have fiend who uses himself as a filter and urinates into a large bottle with a funnel stuck in the neck.

This would also eliminate the need for fertilizing most plants, as the name urine might suggest, its mostly urea and related compounds(the most common bulk fertilizer)

In a healthy individual urine is perfectly sterile so don't fear working with it(they used it to clean wounds back in the days of poor water quality).
Do be mindful you don't leave it exposed to oxygen though(cap the bottle) as urea degrades into ammonia when exposed for a few days, and that could be quite smelly indeed!

Other options.

.Collect  it from the water feature at your local park(the aquatic birds poo in it making it rich in nitrogen) though also necessitating that one is sure to thoroughly wash ones hands due to certain bacteria potentially existing.

.Local stream.

.Invest in a rain barrel or kiddie pool for catching water when it rains(cover when sunny). Whilst some jurisdictions have laws on untreated water, non drinking water is normally exempt provided it is covered from mosquitos and under a certain quantity(check your local laws)

.Get a water dechlorinator from your local pet store(sold in the aquarium section for fish tanks) right next to that dechlorinator should be ph regulators and ph strips allowing you to cheaply and efficiently produce quality water and bottle it till needed.

Thank god I live where tap water and rain water are one and the same.....

Your water supplier(city/county/co-op) has to post water quality reports every so often. (At least in USA)

You could always search or stop by for one and see what if anything you're opposed to getting in your soil. Chloramine is the one thing I've heard is nasty stuff, but I've never lived where they use it.

We're on a well now, but I used to supplement all my plant's rainwater with tap water during dry spells. Always lived in places with decent tap water though. First use kinda places. The further downstream you are the worse it gets.

excellent question

Tap water here is like one of the best in the world (dont mean to brag), but it still does contain a medium amount of minerals.

So my question would be which ethno's really want their water mineral-free like good rainwater or is there a way to remediate this?

Seriously the pet store.

If you want to remove or add minerals/chlorine or add something, they have about a dozen different products to soften, purify and adjust water ph.
Any thing you might want to do to water should be solvable by a good aquatic life store.

Many people have large 500 litre(over 100 gal) fish tanks that require very specific care.
No one would buy those products if they weren't at a reasonable price point and easy to use.

Those tanks generally are refilled twice a month with fresh water totalling 1000 litres each month!
I use roughly 30 litres a day for all my plants, I cant imagine many people except absolute plant fiends going through 1000 litres a month.

Point is whatever your problem don't be afraid to use poducts for a different use.
If that stuff is good enough for a fish collectors $6,000 Arowana and he sleeps well at night, then its good enough for your plants.

I use tap water for everything, even Coca. I like to let it sit for at least a few hours before I use it. A few years ago I would go to a nearby park and fill several 5 gallon jugs with river water.
