Farmed in Cambodia
    #25738758 -

Dear Shroomers,
could you please help me identify these mushrooms? They have been farmed so i have no information about their original habitat unfortunately. I'm in Cambodia so i suspect it's an Asian strain.

For your reference, the line of the sheet is around 1/2 of an Inch.
The odor is a bit acidule.

Many thanks,
Becky

Unfortunately that's not enough information to tell for sure. They look like an Armillaria, but could be Hypsyzygus, although I don't think that's likely. Were these supposed to be psychoactive mushrooms? Because they are not that.

Cultivated Hypsizygus for sure, aka "Bhuna Shimeji". Delicious in fry-ups with for instance rice and an omelette.

Welcome to the Shroomery. :toast:

Only happy to help. :hatsoff:

If you're interested in psilocybin mushrooms you should try to find them in the wild rather
than buying them from shady dealers. Next time you might run the risk of losing more than
just your money.

Since you're in Cambodia there are several species of Panaeolus in subgenus Copelandia, plus Psilocybe cubensis, that
you might find growing on manure from cow or buffalo:

Panaeolus cyanescens

Panaeolus cambodginiensis

Panaeolus tropicalis

Make yourself familiar with these and their most common look alikes, bring a camera
and take good pictures of all your finds, post them here and we'll do what we can to
help you identify them.

I agree with Anglerfish,  your in prime country to find the species he listed. Look for mushrooms in dung that bruise blue to bluish green where injured or handled. Look for them in Buffalo, elephant, cow and horse poo that is aged, they never grow in fresh poo.

I don't ever blame poor locals for taking advantage of tourists.

It's your job to be informed, buying drugs on vacation from sketch street vendors is a risky move.  The fact these are edible and not just randoms from a yard is a fairly good outcome for that situation.

One does have to take into consideration the language barrier, It could have been a misunderstanding.

They are likely stolen from a shop or a market. I guess that most people wanting to make a quick buck wouldn't
even bother searching out wild mushrooms as long as it's easier to get them from a vendor.

I bet you bought those from an expat at a hostel not a Cambodian.  I ran into a Samoan guy selling something similar to backpackers in Kampot. Shady

It was really fun and easy to hunt them in the coastal fields and pastures.  Highly potent copelandia plentiful and I brought back good prints.
