1st Time at Bulk Grow using Oats and Coir

So after deciding to try my hand at growing mushies for the second time, I've decided that I wanted to grow in bulk. For this first time, I will be following BOD's Easy AF Oat and Monotub Tek. I got some B+ Spores and inoculated 10 total pint jars (this is the only variation to the tek I've done). So far I've lost 2 jars to Rhizopus contamination. I believe I caused this when I stupidly loosened some of the jars due to me thinking the spawn wasn't getting enough gas exchange because I didn't follow BOD's Lid Tek. Now I am using lids with a 3/8 hole in it and Tyvek between the metal lid and the metal jar ring. Tomorrow I will be doing inoculating 8 jars via GTG in a still airbox to help make up for some of the lost jars due to contams.

Could anybody offer any advice in regards to what to do when encountering  Rhizopus contaminations? Is there a sterilization procedure that I should do before reusing the jars/lids that got contamination?

Since then I have cleaned my entire room, used bleach to mop my floors and used a whole can of Lysol to try to mitigate any spores that might be still in the air. Am I doing too much or is this good practice to ensure a cleaner environment for next time around?

Are you letting your SAB sit for ten minutes?

Edit: You've gotta let the airborn contams settle onto the floor of the SAB before working, and you need to use a shelf to keep items up and off the floor.

A shelf only needs to raise your work up two or three inches.

Yes, I let my SAB sit for about 10 minutes if not longer while I went and showered. I don't think it was my inoc procedure as I have other jars that are growing just fine. Hopefully by tomorrow, one will be good enough to be able to do a GTG to some new jars I prepared yesterday. Also, I have my jars in a tote about 2 feet off the ground on a small desk.

I have tubs and colonizing jars on the floor and have had no issues thus far. Is a shelf best practice, then?

Safest and most successful workflow is

1. Spores print / syringe -> Agar plate Bodhi Easy AF Agar Tek
2. Healthy agar plate -> Grain jar
3. Healthy grain jar -> grain master OR spawned to bulk substrate

THEN, I like to clone my fast growers via agar.

Check out this thread for some great videos. Do your legwork, be patient, and practice good technique an you will be successful.

There are no shortcuts. A lot will be learned through trial and error. I am speaking from experience.

So from the initial jars that I innoced 5 survived. Of the 5 I used one to do a g2g transfer to 6, quart jars I've since bought. The jar I used had 2 mushrooms already starting to grow inside the jar before I shook it to break the oats loose. I also made some grain water agar as well as potato dextrose agar and in both cases I noticed very slow growth of mycellium across the dishes. I think this is because I may be using too much agar:nutrient ratio. This is my first time at this and have so far purchased polyfill, 12-quart jars, 23qt presto PC, telephone brand agar, organic honey, glad minirounds, a SAB tote, BODs recommended monotub tote.

Dilute grain soak up to 1:4 tap water for more aggressive growth

Thanks, I did that on the 31st along with some more g2g transfers. So far I now have 24-quart jar colonizing and only 2 got contamed. Still working on my sterile tek. I'm finding more success in realizing my errors as I go along.

Here is a transfer from another plate. It has good rhizo growth but theres a blob of white on one side. I don't know what it is. It is white in color
