Urgent!
    #25727639 -

Can someone tell me definitely, based on these photos that this is the chicken of the woods? Too scared to find out on my own.

I'm no expert but I know you need to check the underside...if your not sure LEAVE IT!!
Chicken of the Woods

Laetiporus sulphureus

fruiting bodies are up to 20cm wide, shelf-like, rubbery, sulphur yellow to orange, sometimes with bright orange tips.older specimens become pale and brittle, chalk-like.flesh is white to yellow tinted, firm, softer towards the edges.underside is characteristically white to bright yellow, with tiny pores instead of gills.has no stem.grows in overlapping groups on logs, stumps, or wounds of trees.appears in spring, summer, and fall.has a mild taste and odor; cook before eating.tip: harvest the soft outer margin of the younger specimens to avoid bitterness.an inedible (but not poisonous) look-alike is Pycnoporus cinnabarinus, which is corky/rigid rather than rubbery, and orange/red on the top and underside, rather than bright yellow on the underside.an inedible (but not poisonous) look-alike is Hapalopilus nidulans, which is cinnamon brown/orange on the top and the underside, rather than bright yellow on the underside.warning: can cause allergic reaction in some people due to toxins absorbed from the tree; begin by sampling small amounts.

Not chicken of the woods, looks more like Pleurotus citrinopileatus. A photo of the underside would help, like the other poster said

Why is this urgent? Has someone, or someone's pet already eaten it? If so, consult Poisons Help; Emergency Identification For Mushrooms & Plants on Facebook. As already stated, pics of the underside would really help.

Edit: but only consult that group if it really is a genuine emergency! You really shouldn't exploit that group to get an regular everyday ID, otherwise you could be putting other people's lives or their pets lives in jeopardy.

Usually when you have "mad respect" you don't have to talk about it. Starting arguments will do you no good. Everyone here wants to help, but not if you're going to be rude.

Okay, well, if we see your name come up in the future we're going to be a lot less likely to help you.

That's how this works.

Would this be a good example of a cultivated mushroom escaping into the wild?

I believe I have found these years ago while down south and someone told me it was probably a cultivated variety escaping into the wild since they're not readily found in the wild.  Any truth to that?

They are not native.
There is a research study looking into the origin/spread/naturalization of golden oysters in the US.
