New Years Hog Leg...
    #25714803 -

One of my hunting buddys gave me this hog leg earlier tonight
Its almost unfrozen enough to start cutting on it
He was going to send it off to the processor, screw that I am gonna process it myself
It was just harvested yesterday, its gonna be mmm mmm good:derdance:

we actually had a mess of turnips two nites ago.  not the greens, they're long gone, but the turnips.  they're like sweet/nutty mashed potatoes the way we do them.  we only planted a 8'x2' section, two rows.  grandfather barely kept them watered and alive through some later summer heat, so it's amazing they made anything.

i'd love some collards and black-eyed peas with hog jowl tomorrow, but my grandma can't stand that....and she's the cook in her house, nobody else allowed

I hear ya! I actually grow collards and mustard greens right now. They are perfect winter crops for the south. It's crazy how a giant pot of greens cooks down to almost nothing. !

i don't like cooking greens.  i prefer them lightly steamed, raw, or wilted quick in a skillet with a touch of browning.  but i'm with ya.  i've tried telling my grandfather they could have all kinds of winter greens, but he refuses to believe me.  i'ma chalk it up to being old/losing his mind.

yeah. I plant year around... actually I work on all 4 seasons. snow peas in the spring and fall, summer vegetables, and of course greens/broccoli/carrots/radishes/cruciferous vegetables in the winter.

dude I eat them right off the plant soon as they come in. sometimes I get enough to bring a crop in to cook, but mostly I just eat them raw, right off the vines
