Texas Judge Rules Obamacare Unconstitutional
    #25684518 -

I am glad to hear ObamaCare (ACA) is receiving attention. It appears that the individual mandate has been ruled unconstitutional.

I always hated the individual mandate. Unlike roads, being forced to pay a tax by the individual mandate penalty does not allow one the chance to use the healthcare services. And if you don't pay for other people's healthcare? They come to your house with guns and take you away.

Quote:
A Texas federal judge on Friday ruled that Obamacare violated the Constitution, likely pushing the ruling towards the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Judge Reed O’Connor, a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas appointed by former President George W. Bush, ruled that Obamacare violated the Constitution.

O’Connor said that because the individual mandate is “essential” to the rest of the ACA, all of Obamacare is invalid.

Meh, one district judge doesn't mean shit. His ruling is not binding on any other court in the country.  It isn't even binding in his court on any other case.

I think if they really truly honestly want affordable healthcare, they should look at some of the billing.  Doctors charging over $100 for a two minute conversation.  Doctors billing for 45 minutes when it was more like two or three.

There's a lot of fancy pen work in medical coding.

Got any evidence of this?  Sounds like more of the willfully ill informed drivel you continuously spew.

I pay my doc 100 and he does a good job. He took care of my fractured ankle and gave me some free braces.

He's a good small town doctor. An Eastern Indian. Good man.

Is it fair to say that you would support universal healthcare/medicare for all then?

I'm guessing it's to make the rich and the poor pay an equal amount, so the poor can't afford it.  But maybe XUL will prove me wrong...

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

He doesn’t want to pay for other people’s insurance. Of course, he doesn’t want to pay for his own either.

Let's give him a fair chance to respond before we crticise him for things he hasn't even said.

I can't wait.  I think our premature responses made XUL realize there is no good answer.  :smirk:

Yeah, I'm thinking he's just going to flake out and ignore the question.

See, that's why I like debating someone like you. We almost always carry the debate to completion and make honest attempts to do so. In the end one of us changes our mind, we come to an agreement, or determine that we were arguing separate issues all together.

So many debates with the XULs and qmans of this world devolve into logical fallacies or simply abandoning the debate all together when it looks like there's no where else to go with their position.

I lean towards private insurance that could be bought even out of state. Competitive markets.

I am glad ACA is being debated as unconstitutional. There may be alternatives to private insurance, but ObamaCare isn't it.

Ha!  My guess was correct ("to make the rich and the poor pay an equal amount, so the poor can't afford it").

You are technically correct. Obamacare used private insurance, thus it was not an alternative at all.

I agree the ACA is fucked up and far from ideal, but given ultimate control in designing the healthcare system why would you choose to privatize it? I just don't see what advantage throwing a bunch of middle men with a profit motive in has to the system, the public, or anyone but themselves.

I see an argument that government can be inefficient or whatever, but I don't see why that applies to the question. If you are designing it you can design it without the inefficiencies. The private interests within the healthcare market is the very reason it's so expensive today and Obamacare was created; it's not like we started a major national debate because the system we had was working so well.
