Matsutake id

Found these today, thought they looked good and picked one for spore print since I didn't have my id book on hand. Now I'm seeing that they resemble the tricholoma magnivelare but I'm probably wrong. Color is right (photos I've seen vary from white to white with some brown on cap), thick and tapered stripe, and spicy odor. What's wrong is lack of skirt on the one I picked. Also, there was a conifer somewhat close by but the immediate area was deciduous and as you can see from the photo, plenty of deciduous duff. More info needed or definitely not matsutake?

NO!! those are definitely NOT matsutake.. I'm afraid I've never seen those before... but they aren't matsutake, for sure.

These are matsutake



They never have a stipe that looks like that - theirs comes to a chiseled looking near point and will always (in my experience at least) be covered in light gray volcanic ash. They have a pretty thick veil. They are mycorrhizal with pine trees, so won't be found far from one - often occurring right along a root line.
