Hydroponic crop suggestions

I'm looking to start growing hydro for profit. A grow room is in the works and I'm making plans for a multi-layered nutrient film system. I just need to decide what crops I'm gonna grow so I hope you fellas can give me some ideas. I'm considering hops strongly because there are quite a few microbreweries nearby and hops are a rather slow crop with only one harvest a year, which can be improved to three in hydro. Also considering herbs and spices because leafy stuff like that is real easy but I'm not sure how much money there is to be made with that. Tomatoes are another top contender. There's massive demand for a good tomato, and hipsters will pay a premium for anything hydro. I just need to find some good genetics first. I'm not interested in growing anything illegal.

hops isn't a bad idea, but they grow quite large, so you'll need some clever lighting and training techniques to get high yields indoors

i dunno.
If you had a 30,000 sq/ft greenhouse, i would say go with hops.
If you have a warehouse, go with leafy high rotation crops like various lettuce etc.
If you have a spare bedroom or a garage I would say go with micro greens.

You could try oddball niche stuff like taro or groundcherry, depending on how adventurous your target market is.

This is actually the first I've heard of microgreens. Seems like starting all those seeds would be a ton of labor.

Hipsters like tomatoes eh? How about kale? Im sure organic hydro kale would be a good seller. Anything organic is always good.

Not to be a downer but I'm not quite sure how much money is to be made from indoor hydroponically grow plants that aren't illegal. What kind of light source are you using and how much space do you have available? When running my 400 watt light my electric bill was about $60 more than without it. I just don't know if you could grow $180 worth of tomatoes under a 400 watt in the 3 months it would take to grow them. Although I will say they have hydroponically grow lettuce at my grocery store it's 2.50 a head but it's like they grew it under low light because it's like 1/5 the weight of regular lettuce.
But I think they grow it in a large green house utilizing natural light.

I have about 600 square feet. I don't know what kind of lights I'm using but it's not sunlight.

Could grow kratom and sell it on ebay. Baby plants go for 20-50$ each. Also see dried poppy pods going for a good chunk on ebay, both those require a lot less light to grow big.

Is your hydroponic hops going to be of high enough quality that breweries will even want to purchase it? Or are you just assuming 'I grew it hydro, so of course they'll buy it' ?

600 sq ft of hops isn't going to be profitable. 600 sq ft of tomatoes isn't going to be profitable. Even with your "3 harvests per year" number. (Where did that number come from exactly)

You do know that hops need a cool period before regrowing, right? Did you factor that into your three harvests per year?

The room is temp controlled. I'm in the beginning stages of this so my options are wide open. Kratom seems like an excellent idea. I'm not expecting profit anytime soon. I have enough resources to play around with that I can take some risks. I'm looking for this to be a learning experience.

I saw a guy on ebay selling kratom plants he would monitor ebay and one day there would be 6 other plant dealer, would have his for 25$ then next day he would be only seller 50$ if you put in time there is profit. Also had 100 pants 1000$, and based on his pictures looked like he was  growing in a few 8x4 grow tents. typical plant was posted as 8-14 inch.

I been reeearching hops, actually ordered me some chinook rhizomes, and it really needs a lot of room. I will grow outside but how much space do you have OP?

I'm not going to offer assistance on crop selection but will increase your efficiency.

Use somewhat shallow containers. I was using 30 gal containers for less marijuana plants than 8 gallon containers that do just fine. The roots have infinite room in water basically.

This makes nutes last 3x as long.

I would also recommend you to use the floranova line of nutes. Despite the facade that was thrown here about monsato to indirectly and subtly slander my suggestion when I first recommended it, it is mostly an organic nutrient.

Floranova or any gh regiment scales something awful and is synonymous for lockout when recycled.  best bang for the buck is jacks or cutting edge with nutrient film most commercial outfits only grow leafy veggies that way //any veggy that fruits is almost exclusivly run on drip systems in rockwool only way to turn a profit commercially even with weed . I dont know wheres its located but why not open a hydro store . Its like this very few gold miners got rich but every sucker that sold gold mining supplies killed it . Also have u thought about doing Aquaponics raising the fish or prones depending on area is normally very lucrative and u can grow leafy veggies and cucumbers as a supplementle source of income and all u have to do is buy fish food and ur veggies would be truly organic

What I'm doing is hard to compete with bang for the buck, even if I were to do it on warehouse xinfinite scales. I don't know what you're speaking of nutrient film so I won't speak against it.

Yes, I'm speaking of shallow water culture hydro farming.
