Expanding Vermiculite
    #2555868 -

Whenever i measure out the vermiculite for the amount of jars i plan on using the vermiculite expands when i put in the desired amount of water so i end having to use about twice as many jars then i intented. is this normal or what?
heres an example because that might sound kind of confusing:
i planned on using 4 jars that hold 1 cup each.
i measured out 4 cups of vermiculite
put in the water
added BRF
put the mixture into the 4 jars but had enough left over for almost another 4 jars.
is this normal or is there something im doing wrong and should fix? could it be me just not knowing im putting in too much water causing the verm to expand more? anykind of comments or suggestions are appreciated, thank you.

Ok, I do not do PF style. But, I do use vermiculite. Before I use it I hydrate it a bit, then microwave it. This causes it to swell up much more than usual, and helps when it is packed down during shipping and handling to the garden store. Once I swell it up it holds much more water. This could be adapted in your case, to pre-swell the vermiculite before you add water and mix.

You have 4 cups worth of jars and 4 cups of vermiculite, this means the jars are full.
Then you add something(BRF and water) to the already full jars and wonder why you have excess mixture?!

Look up the recipe of the pf tek:
