Is the difference between the two just the pointy tip?

no. there are a variety of differences between libs and mica caps. the umbo is one, but the size, color, stipe, and gills are dramatically different. spore print is different as well (something you should be doing to help ID). mica caps deliquesce really quickly while I've only seen one or two libs go black. I've seen small clusters of libs but never anything as dense or plentiful as you see with a mica cap flush. in short, the only thing they have in common with libs, in the end, is that they're both mushrooms and they share a similar habitat.
