:mushroom2: Walking with my girlfriend down a new devolpment, i saw a patch of mushrooms spirting up. I found some convex caps and Liberty caps. The following description applys with both. The only difference is the cap shape.

  Cap Details
-The texture is very smooth, almost like a leathery feeling
-From the top the caps are a circle, from the side they are convex, also i have some liberty caps.
-The edge of the caps are strait, not wrinkled
-The caps color is tan, on an immature caps there seems to be a browin ring around the edge and as the caps matture the ring disapears. The middle of the cap is a hump w. a light brown dot on it.

  Gill Details
-The gills are not completly free of the stem, but also not completly attatched.
-When i ran my finger through the gills i noticed they were loose
-gills are moist, kind of a waxy feeling
      -no discoleration with bruising
      -dark brown

  Stem Details
-the stem seems to be longer than the caps
-the stems grow at a tilt
-the stems are also dry and leathery
      -no discoleration
      -light tan

How can i get an accurate spore, print? i leave the caps on paper, and never get results. Any Suggestions? Ive read about using tinfoil.

In this pic i have placed a penny in for a sense of size

Here are a couple of pictures of the libs

what they are? off the top of my head I don't know but don't appear to be active,, and if your finding libs in mass.. you need to let me know about it,, I was under the impression they did not grow in southern New England???? I am in Rhode Island...

Oh and spore print,, I usually put them on either white paper or foil... foil will show the white spore prints better..cut away the stem from the cap. dab the cap with a little water. Place a glass or bowl over them, let them sit for awhile at least a few hours,, or maybe even overnight.. then check them,,, note the color.... and let us know.. also let us know what the habitat was like,, IE: growing directly on dead wood, up from the ground, in leaf litter single or in clusters,,, will help us narrow it down...

Can you describe "brown" a bit more? It covers so much possible ground that, by itself, it's not all that helpful.

For example, is it paler or darker than cinnamon? Is it a bright or dull brown? Try comparing it to something that most everybody is likely to have experienced.

Happy mushrooming!

Think of common things (that everybody is exposed to) that are brown.

milk chocolate
dark chocolate
cinnamon
types of coffee
types of tea
various spices
common types of wood

Find one that seems reasonably close to the color you want to describe.

Happy mushrooming!
