Power inverters for cars?
    #25554786 -

I want a power inverter for a car that I can run a laptop on. There seems like a lot of options, but I just want something reliable and mid-range budget wise. Probably gunna buy from Walmart, Princess auto, or like Best Buy.

Anyone have some recommendations?

I think i need about 65W for the laptop, but I should probably get something up to about 150w, incase I need to run something else.

Just determine what your amperage requirements are and make certain the inverter you're considering meets or exceeds those.

Realistically, charging your laptop could likely be done with any commercially produced inverter.

Recommendations?  Get one with usb ports.

Make sure it's not made in China.

Yeah the wattage ratings can be optimistic on cheap ones but 65 W isn't a lot. My cheap "300 W" inverter won't run my 200 W air compressor for example. Better inverters  may be less "noisy" in an electronic sense, not sure if that matters for charging a laptop but it might in some cases. I haven't noticed any issues charging my laptop with my cheap inverter though.

I no longer have it but it worked great.

That at least is a brand I've heard of. What was the wattage on that little one?

U want a name brand one.

Rigid is a name brand manufacture of quality tools. They also make inverters: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-RIDGID-100-WATT-POWER-INVERTER-120V-10A-Outlet-2-USB-Ports-/192686663011?nav=SEARCH

U want a minimal of 100watts for laptops to give some overhead in case u want to want to charge your phone or something.

Also, try not to use it too much when your car is not running. It will kill your battery after using for too long.

Cars are so full of these design flaws like that that everyone has come to just accept. Oh, the battery is crucial to starting the car and will be damaged if it discharges too low? Let's make sure that there are no failsafes against devices plugged into the cigarette lighter or the interior lights etc. doing just that. Because obviously operating those things for as long as possible must be a higher priority than not having to boost the car or replace the battery.

Yeah its pretty dumb that there isnt a failsafe warning in cars saying "warning, batter almost drained!" Or a light or beep sound.

Why havent car makers thought of this yet?

Or just default to turning those things off unless you've enabled some override, in case you're not there.

I think there probably are some cars that do have some kind of better system for it. I've also heard of people modding their cars so that stuff is always just unpowered when the car is off.

Most cars are complete dogshit for reversing as well. It's good that some finally have backup cameras but the maneuverability is still shit.
