Four "Time of Death" Questions
    #25552348 -

1. On 10/11, I inoculated 10 WBS jars with lion's mane using a Basswood Farms syringe. Not much action, but here's what's visible:

When should I call “time of death”? Forensic insights? Rays of hope?

2. On 10/12, I spawned (at about a 15% rate) fairly vigorous oyster mycelium growing on straw to some gallon buckets (pasteurized coir + HW sawdust + gypsum), and set them in a tote in a giant, loosely closed but misted black contractor bag (opened 1x+ a day) @ ~68ºF. I don’t see growth through the 1/2" holes (4 per bucket); yesterday I noted little flies buzzing around; today I opened a top and could detect no growth.

I don’t want to call time of death on these yet. Should I tape up the holes? Or sit on my hands and wait some more?

3. On 9/17, I spawned oyster growing on straw to more pasteurized and “gypsumized,” drained straw and tied it off in 14" poly tubing, poked slits for air exchange. I left it in the garage. No visible growth, and now it's getting pretty cold (Zone 5a, VT) . . . I presume it’s time to call it?

4. Almost a month ago, Trich hit the two monos (before my first flush). They continued to produce, but are slowing in the cold. So here, too, I presume it’s time to call it?

I probably hold on for too long, and should rather learn quickly from and ditch failures - and move on to try again. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Hard to tell anything from those pics. Wait until you have more growth and post more pics. Multispore can take a long time. Next time go to agar then to grain. If this spawn works out just save enough grain to do a G2G transferer next time. It will save you a lot of time on your next grow.

Thanks, SHROOMSISAY01. Yes, before long, I'll have a flow hood - and g2g + agar will be much better . . .

In the meantime, I'll wait for some more growth on the LM jars.

This is a good option for a flow hood hospitals use them in the ceilings and they are pre-built with a fan and ready to use except for a cleaning if you buy a used one. I got lucky and got two brand new ones for $70 each from a place in Cleveland Ohio if you are close to there I will give you the name of the place I got mine from.

Awesome!

I'm not near Cleveland; but I'll definitely check local hospitals, and those ceiling filters. Thanks!
