Parental tiredness is some crazy stuff.... I remember waking up to feed my kiddo and I eventually propped myself up so good in a slanted position to feed where we were both comfy and safe and would end up sleeping with him that way after feeding with my boobs out. Just straight up no cares, I was too exhausted. If he was hungry again after we drifted off in that position, food was right there and would wake me up. I know alot of doctors and nurses claim that it's not good for the baby to sleep with you, but I can't tell you how many times my kid has slept on my chest during his first year.

On the main topic of getting up early. I hate it. I consider myself to be a huge night owl still, even after years of early morning shifts (getting up at 4:30-6am, or normal 8am). I can still tell that I will get a more focused drive late at night when I am supposed to be going down for bed. I found waking up way more earlier than your usual time, if you have to wake up early, helps tremendously. Such as waking up at 5:30-6, when you have to wake up at 730-8am. Maybe it's a learned military brat thing, but it actually helps alot to be able to fully wake up before you have to wake up and face the day. Plus you can lounge around and take your time getting ready. I dunno, alot of my getting up early experiences in my life is literally rolling out of bed at the latest possible minute I can get. I don't wear makeup and I shower at night, so I get up, get dressed and ready, then head out the door. I only do that getting up way earlier thing when I have my shit... like more together in life.

:smugjerry:

I sort of have been doing that. If I need to be somewhere by 11:00 for example. I will wake up at 9:15 so that I have 45 minutes to lay in bed before getting up, 30 minutes in the shower, and 30 minutes to get there and be a little early. Is that what you're talking about.

Yep! Because it's alot harder for you, I would even suggest waking up 2.5-3 hrs instead of the 2 hrs you are doing. After getting used to it, then dropping down to 2 hrs. It's probably better to just get up instead of chilling in bed though for this. It just helps start your body for early morning. You could also work out in the morning as well, go for a walk or run outside after waking up. Doing this will also benefit your body to waking up earlier. Then taking a shower and eating breakfast before transit to work. The main thing is getting your body moving and used to earlier waking times. Even though I know how exhausting it can be, especially starting out. And keeping at it, even on your days off. When you're off though, even waking up and laying in bed will help. After a prolonged time, your body will get used to it. Now actually might be a good time to start, especially going for a run outside because of the weather. It's more crisp and chilly, and will wake you up much faster than a summer's morning.

Oh but also, try to remain getting up at a constant time. Choose the earliest schedules you have to keep and start from there. So if most of your week you are working at 11am. Get up every day at 8-9am. Even if some days you work at like 1pm, still try to manage to get up at 8-9am. The major thing is consistency. But I understand how hard it is when you have really unscheduled workdays. Which is why I keep messing up my schedule. So many days I close, then I'll open, close again, etc. You have to try to find a balance where every day can be consistent and on schedule. It'll be alot easier that way to get used to. And once you get your body acclimated to doing so, you can slack off a bit on days off.

But this isn't for everyone and that's ok if it doesn't work for you.

Or getting a night job would easily solve the problem without having to restart your sleeping time. Oh how I wish for that again.

was that at me?
I've eaten dinner at like 9pm 930pm my whole life:lol:
during highschool I'd be lying in bed for 3 or 4 hours wondering why I'm not falling asleep
I didn't even have cable or a computer in my room
now my family eats closer to 10pm and they go to sleep at like midnight-ish, my mom passes out on the sofa

When you start the farming in a few months, are you going to do it mostly at night? Or are you hoping your internal clock will stay the same and adjust to Australian hours so you're awake during the day in Australia? I would assume your body will adjust based on daylight.

I have learned techniques that help me sleep when I realize I am laying there literally waiting in anticipation for the sleep the get me. I have to realize that I'm feeling a kind of non-positivity about sleep, and then do this weird thing where I consiously relax all my muscles to a super dead state and I simulate in my mind that I'm sinking, and each breath is pulling me further down and I do this it fuckin works pretty well

Yeah sorry man, just realised I misread what you said! I thought you said you 'gotta eat a lot of dinner'!!

Of course not. But I'm so physically exhausted after a days farming that sleep comes easy.

This sedentary lifestyle is for the fucking birds man. Even exercising four times a day I can't counteract how bad it is for my body to sit for nine hours.

I sincerely hope I never sit to work again in my life.

Boobs out with no fucks given and asleep is how you know you're a mom.  My ex-wife and I did the co-sleeping thing for bonding AND so she could nurse in bed.  We still barely fucking slept.  It wrecked me for work for a long time.  Kids are the best and worst thing you can do to your life. LOL.

Re: getting up early.  I've always had a fucked rhythm.  If I have nothing FORCING me to stay on schedule like a job I slowly drift forward and forward because my body doesn't want to work on a 24 hour clock.  Less now that I'm older but when I was younger I'd go to bed at 9pm the first night, then not unttil 11pm the second (or far later) then later and later and later.  It's like my body wants to be on a 28 hour clock instead of 24.  Since the real world doesn't want to adjust to my schedule I end up getting normal sleep before the start of my work week, then I'll get like 4 hours, crash right after work and get 10, then 4 again, then 8 to 10, rinse repeat until weekend.

Since switching to working a graveyard schedule with 12 hour days I have a LOT less problems.  On a day shift even if I get a full 8 hours of sleep I'm not 'alive and awake' until at least noon, assuming a 7am wakeup for 8am work start.  No amount of coffee really helps until about 11am to noon.  Then I'm wide awake.  On nights I wake up right before my alarms clock (set to 4:30pm usually) and do so naturally, feeling adjusted and awake.  I'm on more of a schedule now then I ever have been.    I might have one bad sleep day in the 3 days I work but I crash soon after work anyway so its not a big deal.

Mornings are terrible.. unless I just got off work then they are groovy
