I really fucking hate getting up early * 1
    #25525772 -

After college, I'll be looking to get a job that pays well which will probably require me to go on a 9-5 schedule but I absolutely cannot fucking stand waking up early. And my definition of early is very different from most people's. My body is literally incapable of falling asleep before 2:30 no matter how tired I am because my energy peaks between the hours of 10:00 and 2:00. If I attempt to fall asleep at 11:00 or 12:00, I just lay in bed for hours until its 3:00 or 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning. Often times trying to go to bed earlier actually causes me to fall asleep a lot later because I'm too accustomed to the sensation of the bed whereas if I crawl in when I'm tired I fall asleep in about 15-30 minutes.

I don't get why people have such a hard time understanding how fucking hard it is for me to "just go to bed earlier." When I was in high school, somehow I managed to normally go to sleep around 3:00 and then wake up at 7:30 or 9:00 without too much problem but now I can't do that for some reason. It fucks with me too much. My grades each semester are directly correlated with how late I was able to wake up each semester. My grades during the semester I got to wake up around 12:00 every day were easily the best and my grades the semester I had to wake up at 9:00 every day were easily the worst.

Going to bed later than 3:00, say at 4:00 or 5:00 is more a matter of just personal discipline. If I let myself go I can get on a schedule of falling asleep at 5:00 and waking up at 2:00 every day. Scaling it back to 3:00 would certainly be possible but before 3:00 and I think its legitimately a biological thing. I wouldn't consider waking up at 11:00 to be too bad cause that's still about 8 hours of sleep, waking up at 10:00 is starting to get annoying but I can handle it, waking up at 9:00 every day though really fucks with me and waking up at 8:00 every day would feel like pure torture. Waking up too early every day actually contributes to depression for me.

How the hell am I supposed to work a 9-5 job when my body is like this? Every single person in my family has been a relatively extreme night owl in their youth but mine seems to be the most extreme of everyone in my family.

I think you are blowing this out of proportion.  Switch to your schedule and keep to it and your body will adjust.  You will sleep like shit for awhile then it will natural happen.

I have worked all different shifts at different times and they all have up and down sides to them.

I think the main issue is you "want" rather than doing what you "must" after a few days with insufficient rest you will sleep.

Also what high school let you sleep till 9am?

Most of the 'friends' I went to school with, slept THROUGH high school. But to get back to the OP. You will do it because you HAVE to do it eventually. I'm a lot like you -I really really hate mornings. But in my job they move me from 1st shift to 2nd shift to third without warning. People in my career have a cancer rate 20% higher than the national average. Some studies have attributed this to sleep deprivation and I don' doubt it. Just goes to show you how F'd up the health care field can be. My advice? Don't sweat it -unless you get a job where you have to walk in MY shoes lol. Relax, you'll be fine.

Create your own business or work an odd job that allows you to work a shif more acconadating to your schedule. Other than getting to bed earlier, you don’t really have other options.

OP has delayed sleep phase disorder.

I have it too. That's why I worked nightshifts most of my life and hate working days with a passion.

There are other people here that have it.

Interesting.

:takingnotes:

I find most people can adapt to any sleep schedule but it takes time.

One can adapt to anything; even if not best for them.

I have come to the same conclusion jokeshop. One can adapt to (almost) anything -but at what price? yikes...

Dual enroll at Community College and then cancel out your earliest high school class by replacing them with afternoon or evening CC classes instead. When finished with high school classes, drive over to the Community college and take your other class.

Managed to get up at 9:00am four times a week junior and senior year doing this.

It also looks good on transcripts to have Community College classes and you get college credit which is how I've been able to drop some classes or only take four in a semester now without needing to take extra classes to make up for it.

I would like it better if it didn't remind me of work.

You seem to focus a lot on when you go to bed. Instead, try paying attention to when you wake up.

Wake up early and try maintaining a normal sleep schedule. The human body needs sleep, if you're up early enough, you'll be tired by the evening. A college sleep cycle isn't practical for most adults.
