All our dads, well most anyway, had a very loud come home whistle that you could hear streets away. Each dad had a specific whistle.

I was born in '84 and my grandparents(who raised me) DID INDEED have a metal whistle to call me home for din-din on occasion, such as when i was with friends down the street.  So yeah, i feel ya NR!  I just thought it was more ov a older parental unit thing since none ov my other friends' parents did that.  "Come n' get it!"
