Best way to revive an old strain?
    #25397108 -

I have 8 agar dishes set aside specifically for reviving a print or two I have of syzygy. Was told to hydrate the spores then inject them on the agar. Im assuming there will be some contamination issues. Was going to cut out a section that was good if possible and transfer to another agar dish and hopefully get more good than bad after that xfer. Does this sound doable?

Okay... just went digging into my stash of mj seeds where I kept my old prints. I have 2 syzygy prints to work with. 1 unmarked either syzygy or PE and one that is labeled "OR" that clearly was a gift like syzygy but no clue what OR is. Sounds like I have TWO strains to try and revive.... might need more agar.

Since you have 8 agar dishes, why not just try using the print normally on a couple dishes and seeing if they'll germinate normally? If they're viable and the agar isn't too dry/old it should work. No need for syringes. I tried this out a couple days ago with a roughly 6 month old cubensis print stored at room temperature and it germinated.

Agar dishes are fresh. Just bought 8 specifically to revive syzygy before I knew I had whatever OR is. The syzygy prints are 6-9 years old lol

I got some syzygy too man.
Can’t wait to resurrect.
But 6-9 years. Dang that’s old.
.
Get you some sterile water
This is how I’d do it.
PC a jar of water, let it cool, get a syringe, drop one or two drops of the water onto the print, use the syringe to dislodge spores from the print into the drop of water, suck up the solution, drop one drop each into the plates, wrap the plates, tilt the plates back and forth to roll the drop on the agar... thus depositing spores.
Just what I would do.
.
Welcome back to mycology, brother.

Just make up a syringe and let it sit at room temp for a few days. Then put a drop of solution on an inoculation loop and swipe your plates. Make sure you have some to do transfers.

I doubt you have an actual PE print, but OR is likely Oak Ridge.

I have too, I've even made a couple. But they're rare.

Right on!

I just bought a new PC that can run anything Ill ever throw at it. I also managed to find two sites, one sells syzygy, and one sells oak ridge so I figured id buy a syringe of each hoping for an "insurance" policy.
