What are your favorite animals?
How have they changed over time,
or have they always been the same?

Since I was a kid I've always loved sharks,
I watched a bunch of discovery channel and animal planet as a kid and I alway thought sharks were the best.
I used to always tell my parents that I'd grow up to be a shark scientist. Lol
Truly misunderstood creatures. :crying:

I have also been fascinated with owls as long as I can remember.
There used to be some that would hunt on our property as a kid and one night when I was alone in the hot tube outside one flew right over my head no more than 5-10 feet.
Also, I was OBSESSES with the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series as a kid which only help fuel my love for owls.

I've also always had a soft spot for Praying Mantis's so I gotta mention them cute bois.
Except that praying mantis teacher in Buffy. Fuck that praying mantis, shit gave me nightmares.

As I've grown older though I've started to develop a real love for octopi.
I mean first of all they're freaking ALIENS with alien DNA.
Which could obviously only mean they are Cthulhu spawn.
Plus they are smarter than you.

It's really difficult to say, they're all so incredible - but I think dolphins are probably my favorite animal... they're so mysterious, intelligent, and awesome!

Their evolutionary story, shared with whales and the likes of having been land creatures who readapted to the ocean is really incredible.



Elephants are a close runner-up for obvious reasons



I absolutely love pygmy marmosets as well :heart:



And a shoutout to the hummingbird as well!

I love all the animals but I'm really into exotic animals now. Like 6 gill sharks and odd lizards, turtles, and birds of prey. Think I just really like modern dinosaurs.

I've seen foxes in the dead of night in Alaska. I feel like I identify with them most.

Other than that I love kittens and doggos and animals of all shapes and variety. All though possums are fucking gross.

(really stupid to do this with a monitor lizard btw, they will bite you and let the poison kill you and then eat the fuck out of you... but it's still cool)

That second one is a Red Tegu, a shockingly fat one.  Similar to monitors but different.  Real nice black and white ones come out of Argentina.

You only have to worry about the Komodos turning your blood into a sess pool.

Lizards in general have alot of bacteria in their mouth.

I lost my water dragon to mouth rot cuz he had a cut and the bacteria gave him blood poisoning :sad: won't try to make pets of them anymore. It's far too difficult to set them up with a healthy habitat and make sure they're clean and well nourished.

You're right though. that is a tegu. Thought it was a Savannah monitor at first. Almost adopted one from a local reptile rescue but they need like a 6 ft enclosure. Think that's why people just make them into house pets.

Ever since I was a kid I've be obsessed with penguins.  Another favorite would be to have Wolf.  I grew up with husky's and once fostered a wolf/ husky hybrid.  He was the sweetest and best animal companion ever.

Mouth rot is an infection getting in due to it being unhealthy.  It’s different than saying, because they have so much bacteria naturally in their mouths, it got infected and died.  Humans have nastier mouths.  Of course if it’s sitting in a shit puddle, the petri dish is going to show all kinds of things.  Most bites from reptiles could result in a secondary infection but not primalrily due to the actual bite, it just mechanically opens the door for all sorts of nasties to get in.  Komodos, gilas and beadeds are the only ones I can think of right off the bat that will actually fuck you up firsthand due to the actual bite itself.

Did you get the water dragon from a pet shop?

We basically made all dogs from wolves.

I've had a couple friends with wolf hybrids. Sweetest doggos ever. They were incredibly good boys.

Dogs just like a job. It makes sense that we evolved around them. They hear better than us. They are an alarm system. My dog you couldn't get within 20 feet of my door without me knowing about it.

Gila monsters and beaded lizards are in fact the only known venomous lizard on the face of this earth. :taco::cheers: Komodos just got that funky bacteria.

Pretty sure I read a story about a man dying from a monitor bite. Due to that particular kind of predator friendly bacteria.

Media is full of misinformation though :ohwell:


I did get the water dragon from a pet shop that was gonna euthanize him. He was born with a leg deformity but he had no trouble climbing and hunting. Had him for about a year. Think the little guy got bit by a mealworm and then the mouth rot set in. Tube fed him and had him on antibiotics but I think it was just too late.

I dunno if I'll take in anymore handicapped animals either. Just seem to have really bad luck with high maintenance pets.


Think in the case of most animals they're better off not being our pets. Better off bein out in nature being all majestic and elusive and shit. Or being food for something else majestic and elusive and shit.

Cuttlefish are pretty high up there, nautilus are neat. Lyre birds are hard to match. Owls are just dope as fuck though. Someone hook me up with an owl.
