Bearded Dragon?
    #5982148 - 08/20/06 09:05 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone. Long time no post. SO my friend has a bearded dragon. Any one got a good name for it? It's a big lazy lizzard.

Hard to name a lizard unless you just pick a stupid name like most people do,I like to wait till I have one for a while and see if they can earn them self one,Last bearded dragon I had was called Decon Jr,he was named after his dad who ate a bunch of D-Con rat poison(Strangly enough it doesn't seem to kill lizards nearly as bad,He did get sick though)Give it a little while and see if he comes up with a name for himself

I don't think it'd be a good idea to give him a gift that has to eat.

yeah but eating is half the fun of this kinda pet, they do eat veggies althow not as much when young....and his family could easily take care of that part of it for him.

but back to topic here, your dragon kodos do you let it roam around your house much? when i had one i used to put him on the floor and have him chase crickets around....would help him in that active problem.....i think usually people just feed these guys but forget they need exercie too....then they just plump up and don't get any muscles.

you do dust your crickets right? otherwise there bones break easy....and there back is the first thing to go....been there done that and its not pretty.

na, he really doesn't get much exercise, he probably needs more. i wouldn't let him walk around because i have 3 cats and a dog that would fuck with him, but we sometimes let him walk around on the couch and shit right near us. he also only eats meal worms too, he wont eat crickets. he used to when he was much younger but for the past many months if i bought him crickets he wouldn't touch them and they would end up just dying a few days later. hes definitely chubby tho and loves his meal worms.

what is dusting by the way?

ok tomorrow run to petco or similar, go next to your mealworms and crickets there should be heat lamps ect. look for bottles.

what your looking for is a bottle of calcium basicly....it will have a picture of a cricket on there...what you do is take w/e your feeding him and put it into a bag, then you throw some dust in there and shake it around....just enough for a light dusting.

this gives your reptile extra calcium....that is MUCH needed....and he MUST have a nice REPLILE light...otherwise he cann't process calcium...which makes his bones weaker and weaker over time....till one breaks and he cann't move at all....then you have to feed him with a syringe till he dies or you forget to feed him ect.

lastly, you need to provide your dragon with green veggies at the least....lettece is a fav if i remember right.....as old as your dragon looks.....he really needs it....as they get older they become vegatarens for the most part...which sounds like what happened when he stopped eating crickets was prob about the time you should have started him veggies with crickets or worms on the side as needed.

also, with birds green veggies have an important ingredent that makes there feathers brighter and does other goodies.

i imagine its the same with dragons just nobody is smart enough to run tests and publish something on it....so im guessin your dragon had much brighter colors when younger, so if you feed him veggies dark green are best his colors with slowly come back.

read up thow, some things are poisen, especially with birds...so double check with some searches with birds if you not sure about the sources you find for reptiles.
