Can someone please explain to me what a "responsible drug user" is?
    #25273251 -

I've been trying to find an answer to this question for years and it still remains a mystery to me..

what exactly is a "responsible drug user"? it seems like an oxymoron to me...

every time i think of a possible explanation to this conundrum i'm met with countless paradoxes that completely negate itself. the question seems to arise most often when I find myself in the heat of an intense psychedelic trip.

:filosoraptor:

and that usually ends up ruining the trip for me..

serious answers only, please. i'm trying to get to the bottom of this.

Someone who doesn't put themselves or friends/pedestrians/etc in harms way with their drug use. I don't see why drugs can't be used responsibly. Life has a lot of repetitiveness to it, and there is a lot of structure and rules expectations, etc.

It would seem odd for someone NOT to be able to kick back once in a while.

see, i understand that people have different definitions for "responsibility"...

responsibility, to self, responsibility to others, responsibility to society

the way i'm thinking about it is more the "mind-body connection".

the body is not who you are, the mind is not who you are, but they are yours. they are your responsibility to take care of. you are responsibility for your mental health, and you are responsible for your physical health, and that is what maintains the connection you have with your mind and body, which extends to all other aspects of your life.

by doing drugs, you are essentially severing that connection with your body and mind. they become separate entities in a sense. the physical act of tripping literally severs the connections of your brain that would normally allow for congruent information processing in your average day-to-day life.

the body becomes a "thing", the mind becomes a "thing", and you become detached. in that sense you are (albeit temporarily) relinquishing your responsibility to these very things that keep you alive and grounded in this physical plane of existence, which you rely on for survival.

isn't that kind of like giving the finger to god in a way? isn't that just like saying "fuck you and your order, i want chaos!"

seems kinda irresponsible if you think about it

Nah, pissing your life away worrying about a fucking mind-body connection and not taking risks seems irresponsible. Its a matter of perspective, and the world is chaotic - there's nothing wrong with a little unpredictability

To each their own but psychedelics always make me feel more attached and connected. And if there's a god it is as much manifest in the psychedelic experience as anywhere else. Nothing has helped my mind body spirit connection more

Anyways this isn't Newtons world. Chaos is as important to life as order

I agree, seems like from chaos clarity is born.

About OP's topic, a responsible drug user is someone that does drugs but handles their life responsibilities, they don't put drugs over their responsibilities.  They wont spent money trying to buy a bag if they need that money to pay rent.  They don't get wasted and do shit which could jeopardize their freedom, they know their limits with the substances they enjoy.

this is a good answer.

i don't know why this bothers me, i don't even trip that often...

i've tripped like less than 10 times total my entire life, but every time i do there comes a point in the trip where i start questioning my reasoning behind why i decided to do it.. and that's when the anxiety sets in. it's like i'm intentionally throwing away the gift of real life clarity for an artificial version of what at the time seems like "enhanced clarity" but is just elusive and fades away leaving you with nothing but a fond memory of what you think might have been something special, but you were just high

Yes and "drive safely" is a matter of perspective too. Yet most people understand running red light and speeding on a wet winding road is not safe.

Responsibly means usually using common sense. Some people don't have that but that doesn't mean they're not irresponsible. If a drunk driver hits you he's still responsible for drinking and driving, using both irresponsibly, even if he thought he was okay.

Its all about control my friend. Control of usage, control of not taking too much, control of yourself in public, havng knowledge/intunion to know when its ok to use drugs, control of spending habits on drugs.

Not eaey for some but for me drugs are typixally self-limiiting for a variety of reasons.

I would think something along the lines of using without any negative side effects (apart from a temporary hangover maybe)

As far as society is concerned a responsible drug user is one who can afford it.

See that's the tricky part. Control how? When is it not ok? How much is too much?

One person can have 3 beers and be fine to drive, not even tipsy. I can't metabolize alcohol. I'd be drunk with 3 beers, quite possibly 2. Just about any amount of alcohol is irresponsible for me.

So you also kinda need to know your own limits.

I actually have a whole bunch of drug brochures I got from SSDP. It's pretty sweet. Got everything from opiates to research chem psychedelics and ketamine with harm reduction stuff. Too bad I'm too introvert to do anything with them
