My friend is relatively new at this as well, and he told me to reccomend that you pretty much follow the pf tek for your first time. Casing will increase your yields, but it is possible (especially for a newbie) to screw it up. It's almost impossible to screw up using the pf tek though. Get some fruits, make a bunch of spore prints, then you have plenty of time/supplies to screw around and experiment with. Good luck.

all depends on how much you can stand to lose. if you've got a fair amount of cakes colonizing and you want to try casing then i say go for it. its not a very complex procedure and if you know how to make cakes already, then casing shouldn't be anything too difficult. the only reason i wouldn't do it is because casing takes a little while longer to fully colonize (usually by about a week or two). therefor, unless you either really want shrooms in a hurry or don't have enough cakes to spare, i say case away...

My friend took three of his 12 cakes and cased them. (his first time growing) They took longer to fruit, but when they fruited!!! He had no problems with the tek, and they are growing strong!! Go for it!!!
