Is casing PF strain effective???

i'm wondering if I should just do cakes or attempt casing??? I'm doing the PF strain and it's my first time, which will be better? I've heard casing the PF isn't too effective...is this true? thanks for the help

On my first attempt I cased the pf strain and it is currently producing its first flush. There are HUNDREDS of pins...which i think is a bad thing considering a vast majority of them will abhort butit looks like i will get about 30 shrooms this first flush

I think i will try both...i LOVE my shrooms and would like as much of a yield as possible. i guess that's why i'm casing

good call, yes do both cakes and casings, that way if one gets contaminated all won't be lost and u can recover.

Every time I've cased PF's I end up with hundreds of pins and few full sized shrooms. However, I harvest the pins too, and they account for a significant portion of the take. Tripping on the pins seems to have a different feel than the regular shrooms (but its not like we've done double blind studies or anything).

some kid i know has been growing his PF strain cakes for a few weeks now. he had 3 colonized, took one and crumbled and cased with coco-fiber. it colonized quickly and has an abondunt pin set, but they haven't grown in days. :\ i'll let you know how they turn out for him. his other 2 cakes were birthed in a seperate terranium with perlite humidity. since birthing a few weeks ago they've only grown out a total of 8 2 1/2" - 4" mushrooms. now the cakes are spotting blue (perhaps due to having to pick 5-10 aborts so far). he's pretty dissapointed in his little projects so far but it's his first shot and no contams so i'd say it could be worse. :)

The kids results are not uncommon. I am aware of many people that get performance much like what you have described. I would recommend trying another strain. It could be your technique, but I rather think that its the PFs.

can you case and do cakes in the same terr setup? i am thinking of trying to case 3/4 of my jars and cake the rest, to see which does better.. they have no different humidity requirements or anything so it should be fine, no?

it probably depends a bit on what you use to case. coco-fiber apparently should use less humidity cause they retain too much water. or at least that's what i gather..

I an d a few others have had bad experiences with casing the PF strain but others have had good experiences casing it. I can't say many that have had bad experiences w/ cakes though. If I were you I would case maybe one or 2 and do cake method on the rest.

interesting. i'm trying to figure out what to tell him to do with his 2 cakes since they don't seem to be producing anything worthwhile. it's hard to say what needs to be done, casing doesn't sound like a good direction to go, perhaps not enough humidity? too much? fan more often? i feel kinda bad for him... :\
