ID Melb: almost certainly subs...almost

Habitat:
Pine mulch

Gills:
Purple brown

Stem:
Very Light brown

Cap:
Brown

Spore print color:
In progress

Bruising:
None yet

Other information:
I spotted these little guys today in an area similar to where I've found subs before. I'd be very surprised if these were not subs, the location, look, feel, smell, size, shape all point towards subs, but something about them makes me feel hesitant. They are not bruising at all. Spore print is in progress, and there was some dusty purple residue around the edge on one of the caps.

I'd be very interested in opinions on these, and if they are not subs, then what are they?

Your gut feeling is right, those are no subs, apart from no bruising the cap
and stem color is off as well imo.

don't know what they are though.

That crossed my mind, but there were some Lerats growing nearby, very strong orange cap and stem, unmistakable. These really lack the orange and are very sub brown.
I consider myself a pretty good eye-ball sub hunter, but I guess this goes to show you can't be too careful :heart:

Might be the colour distortion in the photos, they definitely look a lot like subs in the flesh.
