ID pleaseeeeee :D
    #2661628 - 05/11/04 02:43 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

hey guys, i was just curious as to whether you could help me ID some mushrooms a friend found yesterday. Unfortunately i dont have any measurements or anything as i do not have them with me. All i would like is just a basic guess on its species so i have some sort of what idea it is. I can tell you that i am in Melbourne, Victoria, and they were growing in woodchips. Sorry for lack of info but its all i have at hand at this time. Any help is appreciated. They also have dark brown gills.

Without more detailed info, we're all just wildly guessing, of course...

It suggests one of the Hemimycenas to me, for example Hemimycena cucullata.

Happy mushrooming!

Yep definately not subs, but might be a good sign that subs are around in that area... I've found very similar shrooms (mycena spp.?) in the same spot as subs recently (in Melbourne), methinks check your spot again (and surrounding area) after Melb has had some decent rain! Nice pic though! You might be interested in the pics of Melbourne sups (and theyre spores) that I have posted under the title 'Melbourne Victoria Australia ETC (w/pics)'...
Shroom on!

You're an aussie, Psilocybe Subaeruginosa.
Look around the forum, all your mates are finding those things.  I'm jealous, you don't seem to have as much competition down there, I barely ever find patches with mushrooms as big as some of the pics I've seen of those subs, the cyans get picked before they can get that big, can't wait for our season to kick back in again.
Peace

By the way @cro, i dont think they are Psilocybe Subaeruginosa, from what i have seen they look more like this... http://www.shaman-australis.com/%7Ebluemeanie/index.html under the Ps.australiana species.
I will have pics and spore print up by tomorrow.

That link isn't working, but I'm guessing you were reffering to one of the other aussie varieties... well the taxonomy hasn't really been worked out well, till there's some definite classification and clarification, I just kinda refer to them all as P. Subs. I think most everyone else does too, I don't think I've seen a post recently for P. Aust or P. eucaly.
But either way sounds like you did find an active, nice work,
Peace

In the "Victorian Flying Saucers" post the pictures posted by Merkaba are almost identical to mine. Are they edible? Active? Trusted person ID please...

we can't give you an 100% "go" man, until we see the pictures, and maybe even a spore print.
Don't eat before having them IDed, there are poisonous lookalikes!
but it sounds like you're on the right track.

peace
