Re: How do I use a sporeprint versus the normal spore syringe?
    #25138 -

spores are scraped from the spore print using a scaple or inoculation loop onto a petri dish full of agar medium the spores germinate and the mycelium grows on the agar medium and if there were any contaminants on the spore print they too will germinate on the agar and a "wedge" of pure mycelium can be removed with a scaple from the contaminated dish and transfered to a new dish of agar inorder to isolate the pure, contaminate free mycelium. this mycelium in the petri dish grown on the agar can be used to inoculate jars of spawn media directly or it can be "diluted" in water in order to create "mycelium water" which can be used more efficently (you can colonize more jars with it) to inoculate jars of prepares substrate such as rye grain or brown rice and verm.

so you just cannot put the spores directly on the cakes???

because i did that.. and its been one weeks since that happened.. and still no grow.. i was told that it could take up to two weeks since the spores where dehydrated..

i think i messed up...

i still have half a print of gulf coast.

No man... they fooled you
get some sterile distilled water in a new syringe, pour all this water in a sterile glass container that has a hermetical closure, scrape the spores into this solution, and close the container hermetically leave it for 1 day like that, then suck up the solution with ANOTHER new syringe, now you got a spore syringe that is ready to inocculate your jars... dont store it for more than 1 days... it is for immediate use

well you can scrape spore directly on top of a substrate (cake is this case) if the substrate has the right moisture level.

I used a sporeprint without rehydrating (I totally forgot when I did it), and mine are growin' fine! This is, of course, not to say that yours will too. Just make sure your area is COMPLETELY clean if you use a print instead of a syringe.

Here's an idea: if you were making a syringe like psilocyber described, you could do all the risky phases on an oven rack like in the SGCT. This seems to be a good way of making innoculation go smoothly. A FOAF will try this when his casings fruit unless someone tells me they've done it before and failed miserably

Hey.. I am not the most experienced shroomer.. but a FOAF told me that he once used a dry spore print and innoculated the PF tek substrate with an innoculation loop. it worked just fine and in one week the spores began to germinate. I did this because i did not have the money for a syringe, but had access to a quality sporeprint. Sproes are rather strong, they do not need to be hydrated to germinate, they can use the water from the substrate. BTW

It depends on how old the spores are. IF you have a print that is good 6 months old, or older, you will definatly need to rehydrate it for best results. Although the substrate is generaly wet enough to rehydrate them, it doens't always work. To be safe, just let them sit in the syringe for a day to rehydrate before using.
