I was kicked out of school at fifteen and never went to college.

If you want to practice proper grammar, do just that. You don't need the fuckery of the educational system to show you how it's done.

I have mostly been able to avoid doing any courses that involve essays writing so far in my university career. I like to think that my writing is fairly decent though.

My university had some dumb ass  initiative to increase certain skills. I had to write essays in almost every class.

My computer science department has a few "Computers and Society" type courses that sound kinda bullshit, but they aren't required for my degree. There are some humanities and social science breadth requirements but I mostly have those out of the way.

Certain computer science theory courses that involved doing logical proofs have been pretty good for my arguing skills I think.

I taught college for five years, but I'm from Chicago so in informal conversations I still say "Yous guys".

Did you forget a lot of English grammar over the years?

It's probably because tech companies were complaining that college graduates they hired couldn't write well.

I have a college book called "A Writer's Reference". It's a good book, but I'm not sure how much I need it. Even if I became an expert in English the only writing I do is on forums, facebook and email.

expecting others to use prescribed grammar is pretentious. if you apply for a new job just tell them you have too many good ideas too quickly to be bothered about conventions like which version of a symbol to use depending upon its location relative to other symbols

I disagree. If I see someone bodging the English language I automatically think they will bodge other work too.

If I were hiring, and somebodies CV/emails showed bad grammar, they'd be automatically disqualified.

Grammar is irrelevant. The main rule of communication is too make sure the other person understands.English is always evolving

I'm an empath. When I talk to people who have English as a second language I can always communicate with them very well when they don't speak English well.

After being out of college for 15 years and not using my English skills I've noticed my grammar is probably back to 8th grade level. Is this something I should be concerned about? It wouldn't be this way if my life needed better writing skills? Has this happened to you? Should I even put on a resume that I have a college degree since this has happened to me?

Keep posting here. Soon your grammar will become up to par again. It's just a matter of writing and writing. For a bunch a stoners, we collectively have good grammar. And if we don't, the grammar nazis let us know quickly.
