I notice after being out of college for 15 years my grammar sucks pretty bad.
    #25098180 -

After being out of college for 15 years and not using my English skills I've noticed my grammar is probably back to 8th grade level. Is this something I should be concerned about? It wouldn't be this way if my life needed better writing skills? Has this happened to you? Should I even put on a resume that I have a college degree since this has happened to me?

We only allow college-level grammar skills on this forum.

The fact that you're aware of your lacking grammar is a great start, you never get better if you don't realize you suck.
Practice is all you can really do. Read a difficult book and study the sentence structure and punctuation.

Interesting that you say "retards on the internet" when your avatar is literally a retard on the internet.
Was this intended?

OP your post displays terrible grammar.

Revoke your college degree.
Quit your job.

My grammar wouldn't be this bad if my job had required me to write more. I'm not sure if it's wise to include a college degree on a resume after 15 years?

Thanks, do you think they point out people's bad grammar because their grammar is around third grade level?

I was looking at my college "A Writer's Reference" book the other day and I didn't even remember what an Adjective is.

Wrong, once you use "there" wrongly instead of "they're", your degree becomes immediately invalid.

And it's not just that one, either. That's just an example. I used "your" instead of "you're" by accident in an email and my degree was deleted. And I was fired.

What if you graduated with a 2.0 GPA?

Not every college major emphasizes English. From what I hear a lot of companies are upset that college graduates they hire lack writing skills.

I have mostly been able to avoid doing any courses that involve essays writing so far in my university career. I like to think that my writing is fairly decent though.

I'm about to graduate. My grammar has always been okay but my spelling has always sucked. College writing courses tend to focus on creating an argument and supporting it in writing.

Although I am enrolled in an online master's program, it's not the same as a brick and mortar.  Universities nowadays will accept any moron (such as myself) willing to pay outrageous tuition costs.

More so than my grammar, I have noticed my vocabulary has suffered dramatically.  I used to be quite the sesquipedalian -- now I speak like a high school dropout.

I think using the internet will make English language skills worse since most activities online aren't requiring good writing skills. I bet texting has decimated a lot of people's English language skills. Do you talk a lot with other students in your program online and do they have bad grammar?

:awesomenod: You have no idea.

To make matters worse, the people at my last job treated me like I was pompous whenever I used a word that had three or more syllables.

I've always felt that I had to speak in a manner that even the lowest common denominator can understand... It was fucking low at my last job, let me tell you.  I was with the same company for nearly 5 years.  Ugh!  5 years of hell!
