Generally yes.

Dogs usually respect a pack leader figure, which for domestic dogs in the modern world is their human master.

I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule. My in-laws have a formosan. That dog seems like it's barely domesticated. Very leery of humans. Loves other dogs though.

depends on the dog, and the owner. if you abuse your dog then it wont like you regardless of whether it has a sibling. if you treat your dog right then 9 times out of 10 it will care more about you then any other dog

I think with what I consider as proper, responsible pet ownership, that absolutely yes, the dog will love the human 'master' more than another dog it knows and considers a friend.

Mind you guys, I have little to no experience with dogs, but plenty with cats. I know there are major differences. What I see with my cats though, that they form friendships and bonds with each other, but I have one cat who prefers me over anybody and any other cat. I've had him since kittenhood, I first got him when I was living with a girlfriend and when we split I took him with me. All through his early years he would spend nearly every waking minute possible with me. I went through a period of terrible depression where he would rarely leave my side. One day I even saw his entire pile of cat toys outside my bedroom door, and I feel that he 'gave' me everything he 'owned' in an attempt to make me feel better. He's a middle aged cat now and we still have that bond. He is very shy and skitterish around other people, but he will follow me around meowing to be picked up or pet. When I go to sleep at night he sleeps in my bed with me. He even gets jealous when he thinks I'm giving too much attention to the other cats and not him. I think it's because I got him at such a young age (4 weeks old) that he imprinted on me and thinks that I'm literally his family or something. A few years back he got a near fatal UTI where he had to have surgery and I was given hydromorphone of all things in pre dosed oral syringes for the pain. I spent every minute possible with him trying to comfort him as he got better. I think that strengthened the bond even more, because he probably associates the relief from the sickness with me comforting him rather than the terrifying experience at the vet clinic.

So yes, he absolutely prefers me over any other cat even though he does have his other kitty friends in the house.

I know that the psychology of dog/owner is different because dogs are far more pack animal minded than cats are, and to be a dog owner, you have to play the role of 'alpha dog'. But I believe this relationship absolutely can be formed between human-dog as it can with cats. I'm also sure that it goes far beyond you being the one providing the food too. Pets certainly form bonds with people besides 'food giver'. There is definitely an emotional bond there too, providing that the person in question is a good responsible pet owner.

This phenomenon is obviously most prevalent amongst truly domesticated animals, I've heard similar things with horses and even goats and sheep, and with my grandpa, saw the same bond between him and this fucking turkey that he raised for meat but didn't have the heart to kill and let it live out it's full natural life (wild breed turkey too, not the mass farmed white flightless turkeys). This turkey would literally follow him everywhere, he even let it in the house with him.

So yes, cross species friendship (that's what it literally is) is a very real thing.

I find that's one of the magical things of pet 'ownership'. The bond is there, you cannot speak to each other, but can communicate on a very basic level. Therefore there is no judgement like you have with other people, it's a relationship based entirely on trust and unconditional love. I'd say that I care more about my cats than I do most other actual human beings.
