Day at the Dog Park! (Big Pictures)
    #5898939 - 07/25/06 05:38 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

For my puppy Lucy's birthday (she turned 1!) we took her to a dog park to let her run around with some of her friends.  She had a blast, and was exhausted when we left after almost 4 hours of play time.  Most of the dogs there were labs just like her, and one was a yellow lab puppy that looked exactly like her!  The black labs are her friend Zeus and Stryder (who Lucy is starting to do agility trials with), and the husky is her friend Keira who lives around the corner.  There's also some pictures of her with her friend Phoebe, who we were dog sitting for, for 4 days.  Enjoy!  :tongue2:

I know he really does!  That dog had 2 different color eyes, one really dark brown and one really light blue I think.  He was also humping every dog in the park, male and female

There's so many different kinds of dogs.  That must be so much fun for Lucy, just partying it up puppy style.  She's a lucky pup, for sure.

I love her collar.

She loves it too, thank you so much for making it   It fits her perfectly right now, but I'm worried if she gets bigger it might be too tight   If that happens, if I send you some beads, could you make her another one?  I could even pay you for your time, and I promise I'd tell her it was from Auntie Bom   :sun:

That was our first time at a dog park, and this particular one is only about 15 minutes from our house.  We're going to go there frequently.  This was kind of a trial run, because I was a bit afraid of other dogs/irresponsible owners, and didn't want her to get hurt.  All the dogs there were very non-aggresive though, and the owners all seemed very responsible and alert, so we'll be going a lot more

Thank you!  We're so proud of her   There was a professional breeder at the park who suggested we enter her in shows because of her coat, or think about breeding her.  She's fixed though, and I don't know if we want to show her...we just want her to have fun!

I think it's such a good thing that Lucy isn't a living trophy given her pedigree.  She's your friend, baby, family.  Loved.

There was this lady at the park talking about how she thinks some dog owners are nuts because they consider their dogs like children.  She said "kids are people, dogs are not, dogs are animals, and kids are human".  I sort of slinked away blushing, because I'm totally one of those people.  I come home from work everyday, and Lucy is at the door waiting, with a toy in her mouth to give me, just as excited as a kid would be for their parents (if not more!) She sleeps with us at night, and when I'm sad, she knows it, and she licks my face and does sporadic tricks to make me smile.  She knows "clean up your toys" now...she grabs all the toys scattered all over the floor one at atime and drops them in a special laundry basket for her stuff

Nice pics.
Lucy has grown up quite a bit!

Yeah, I was a bit timid the first time I took my huskies to a dog park, but the people there were very reassuring that they'd be fine. They had a good time and got all that energy out twice over. Only downside is that they just get WAY too excited now when they get into the car to go to one, haha.

And, yeah, kids are human and dogs aren't, but that doesn't mean you don't care for them just the same (or somehow similar--not saying someone wouldn't value their kid's life over the dog, but to go on...), but they are different species obviously, which calls for a different way of raising them is all. In short, I see my dogs as part of my family too, maybe not necessarily my children, but definitely family.

P.S. Who is that dog underneath the couch Lucy is on? Is s/he yours too?

That dogs is Phoebe, suffer's sister and brother in-law's dog.  They rescued her from a shelter, and she was terrified of everyone, everything...she had clearly been badly abused.  They spent so much time working with her, and now she's a normal, awesome dog

Lucy's really small for a lab, and I noticed it really for the 1st time AT the park, where she was surrounded by other ones.  She'll still grow a bit more, but she's under 45 pounds right now!  I love it though, she's a very manageable size, and maybe she'll stay that way   As it is, when she decides that she wants to get somewhere quick, she's a handful on the leash.  But now we have her trained to "heel" and she walks right next to us until we tell her to "go play".  She's in the other room right now, doing her favorite thing in the world....eating  :tongue2:

You should get a Harley and take your dog for rides on it, that's what all the cool people do.

I don't have a Harley, but I do make it a point to duct tape her to the hood of my Corolla.  She LOVES it, seriously

Thats not just a bad shot of it, either.  He really looked like that   He clearly wasn't trained at ALL, either.  He was running around jumping on everyone and their dogs, and their owner just kind of laughed about it.  He was gentle so it wasn't a big deal...he was just BIG!
