Since I use crumbled cake casings now, I LOVE the 1/4 pints. They colonize in no time at all, and since I'm breaking up the cakes, they work just as well. I've fruited them as cakes before, and it worked, but I can't remember how well. They make really cute gifts for mushroom loving girls, too.

Great! Thanks for all the info. Which method of casing should I try?

I'd try to fruit them as cakes to make some spore prints first. That way, if it all goes to shit, you'll have a backup supply of spores. Almost guarenteed success if you follow a tek to the letter. MMGG and PFTek are the best for begginers.
If you decide to case, I use a very simple method that seems to work quite well. You can find my version of how to do a vermiculite casing here: http://www.shroomery.org/ubbnoncgi/Forum2/HTML/012140.html
