Has anyone ever installed homebrew on a 3ds?
    #24909709 -

Been looking it over the process and I think I have a pretty good idea of what is happening.  I was wondering if anyone has done it and has any tidbits of wisdom or any heads up sort of advice for getting it done.

I’ll most likely be going by the instructions on 3ds.guide

I have a 3DS that is homebrewed. Get the (Fre)eShop app if you do it. It's got every single game for the 3DS on there, they install instantly too.

Make sure you're on the right firmware too, and be sure not to update the system before hand if so.

I had our 2DS hacked so we could download which ever game from titlekeys on another device but scanned on the DS using FBI ... I could not figure out how to do it myself, so I looked on kijiji and paid $50 to have it done. Maybe someone in your area could do it for you as well?

I had one of those, maybe a 2DS?  I just bought this little card you put all the games on, stuck it in and it worked.

I've installed custom firmware on an original 3DS and a New 3DSXL. Just carefully follow the steps on 3ds.guide, it's relatively quick and foolproof nowadays. https://gbatemp.net/categories/nintendo-3ds-discussions.198/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/ are also good resources. Make sure you have a big SD card because soon you'll have like 200 games.

Word.  I’ve been running through it in my head so I think it’ll be smooth sailing.  I’ll check out those links and see what they say.

There’s a ‘speed run’ on youtube where dude did it in 2min & 2s..

Quick question.. I wanted to look at one of the two .gm9 files and when asked what I wanted to open it with I chose notepad.  I neglected to unclick the “Always open with this” option and it became a notepad file.  Will that cause any problems for me when I get the two .gm9 installed and running?

Nah you'll be fine. You just use your computer to copy a bunch of stuff to your SD card. The actual process is all performed on your 3DS, it doesn't matter what default app you have set to open .gm9 files.

Thank you sir, that’s good news..  I’ll take a crack at it in a couple hours and report back on whether I set it free or started building a wall..
