Any 3ds max users? Need some tips and whatnot

Hey, Ive been working with 3d for a few years, but mostly in Google sketchup. I want to learn 3ds more thoroughly but I cant find a single decent tutorial.

I don't wanna just jump into a 3d model that someone else made, I actually want to learn 3ds max and how to use it... It has a ton of tools and several ways to use each one, but I really cant figure it all out on my own, and tutorials only seem to hastily mention what a tool does.

Is there a way to make it control more like Sketchup? 3ds max's normal setup is great for more complex modeling, but for low poly stuff, sketchup is so much faster to use, but exporting models into .3ds or .obj from sketchup makes the model extremely sloppy (copies faces and lines/vertices sometimes over 4 times in a row) and uv mapping them is beyond a pain in the ass.
So Id love a way to toggle a sketchup style control scheme in 3ds max, anyone know about this?
I don't even know if this is even close to possible.

Is there a tutorial that really explains 3ds and not just "Heres how to make a object, follow these instructions"

Any help would be appreciated.
