long term nicotine quitters
    #2486296 - 03/31/04 05:38 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Has anyone else here quit?
Its been since November for me
I was a 10 year smoker.

My promblem is although I know I am not going to start smoking again I still feel the need to smoke..I kinda dont feel like I ever relax.

I always want something .
I over eat, drink to much water, drink to much pop..etc...

I always feel like I should be doing something, its hard to consintrate.
fuck its like I quit eating..somethings missing, and I dont know if I can find it.
Will this ever change?

I couldn't tell ya for sure seeing as I've never been able to 'stick with it' for much longer then that...you're right though - the 'void' is definately what keeps ya commin back (it's like you've become so accustomed to being constanly busy that you really don't know how to deal with all those empty spaces where you'd used to stay busy smoking a ciggarette)

someimes I wonder how empty all these straight-edgers lives must me

I was a smoker for about 14 years,I quit 15 years ago and know I'll never touch another cigarette again or use any tobacco product.Quitting was the best thing I've ever done!
You won't always feel like somethings "missing" I think its something you will eventually put out of your mind.

Of course you don't feel relaxed - you are but just not as much as you were when nicotine did it for you. You went 10 years with just that little bit of extra relaxation nicotine gives out so you have to deal with a world that's a bit edgier. If it's the way having a smoke passes a bit of time I think people should choose a legal herb with a relaxing effects and grow it - then whenever you feel you need to be doing something you can roll a nice joint of the herb instead of eating or whatever you usually do. Pot would be a good herb choice too if you think you could smoke 20 joints a day and still function. You'd be quite the character going out on your work smoke breaks and lighting up a joint of california poppy (not sure if that would be legal if you have intent to ingest though) might even inspire herbal smoke sessions. It would be pretty crazy - boss comes out and sees a circle with a joint going round and comes out to complain only to find out it's a legal herb - big boss man would probably take a hit too lol.

Meh I'd just say fuck it, and gorge out. Sure you may gain a little weight but you'll still be healthier than if you were smoking. That and get some chocolate, it always helps me deal with cravings.

I quite many years ago after I quite herion.
Can't really say it was that tough even though I smoked for decades.
Cigarettes are a shitty drug.
Worthless buzz with a whole bunch of side effects and a good chance of causing major or fatal health problems if used for a lifetime.
It never ceases to amaze me that Nicotine and alcohol are completely legel while psychedelics and pot get your freedom ripped away from you.
Ohh well I guess its better off for the "land of the free" if we don't allow drugs that encourage you to think for yourself and question authority.

I've been smoking for a year now and I think I'm going to quit soon. I've tried to quit before but I only make it a week. The withdrawal isn't bad at all but I always feel like there's something missing. The worst thing is that I always associate cigarettes with other drugs, so whenever I am getting drunk or stoned I always want cigarettes. I better quit before I end up smoking for ten years and then I'll be deeper in the hole. I wish I had never smoked one cigarette.

I've been quit since Jan. 26, 2004 with the help of the Commit lozenges. I smoked for 15 years. I have weened(sp?) myself off of the lozenges and I don't get many urges to smoke. When I get around someone that smokes, the smell of it actually turns my stomach. I believe that I have actually convinced myself how bad smoking tasted. I kissed a chick a week ago that had just got finished smoking a ciggarrette and that was the worst tasting kiss I have ever had. It was a complete turn off.

I can't see ever going back to smoking. I'd rather just start using the lozenges or some other nicotine replacement for the rest of my life if I can't get over the missing something stage.

Also, when I am at home doing nothing and I get that feeling that I am missing something, I do some excercise or go for a bike ride. It gets my mind off of any urges and it's a healthy alternative to snacking.

Shitttt, I need to try something I'm going on 23 and also heading for a 10 year addiction to tobacco, I started chewing at 13 and have went back and forth with that and smoking for years. The longest I have quit is 2 maybe 3 months at a time. I've never been a very heavy user, in my heavy times which come and I go I get to 2 packs a week, maybe a can of chew a week if I'm using that. I've gotten down to a cigarette a day and did that for long periods, I skip days all the time from all tobacco but I just can't kick it for the life of me.
